Starfield huge new DLC is a surprise story expansion

This looks fantastic!

Starfield fans can download this new expansion-sized DLC today.

Bethesda’s Starfield was many years in the making, and pre-launch, some fans had described it as “Skyrim in space”, which is a fair comparison as it certainly has vibes of The Elder Scrolls RPG but with a sci-fi, intergalactic setting.

When Starfield was eventually released in September 2023 on PC and Xbox Series X/S following a big delay, it was met with mixed reviews, as indicated by its scores of 83 from critics and 6.8 from users on Metacritic.

In our review of Starfield, we said: “The journey you embark on will dazzle you, and I have no doubt that players will be gripped for months, perhaps even years to come. Here is a playground where you can be whoever you want to be. I simply cannot stop thinking about Starfield and the wondrous secrets it still holds.”

In most cases, mods are exclusive to PC but when it comes to Bethesda, at least on Xbox, the likes of Starfield, Skyrim and Fallout 4 all have mod support via the Creation Club, which brings me to today’s story.

As brought to our attention by Insider Gaming, the newly released fan-made expansion ‘Watchtower’ looks like it could easily pass as official DLC from Bethesda. In fact, it's earned the developer's seal of approval on social media.

“Gather your crew, build your fleet, and take the fight to Watchtower,” reads the description of the mod. “A new faction has emerged from the shadows to protect humanity from potential threats with excessive power - and they’ve identified YOU as their latest target.”

‘Watchtower’ not only brings new story content and a faction but also new dialogue choices, ship customisation, exotic equipment and more.

Details on how to download ‘Watchtower’ can be found on Bethesda’s Creation Club website and will cost 1000 Creation Credits (£8.79).

Starfield and its official expansion, Shattered Space, are out now. Both are also available with an Xbox Game Pass subscription.
