Starfield is Bethesda’s latest soirée in the RPG genre that opens up a vast galaxy for players to explore and at times can look gorgeous but this upcoming mod takes the game to a new level.

Widely considered as “Skyrim in space”, when Bethesda launched Starfield in September 2023, it never had the smoothest of landings. For starters, it was plagued with bugs and was missing features that should have been a natural inclusion to planet exploration such as land vehicles.

Thankfully, however, in the months that followed its launch, a series of content updates not only made Starfield look and perform better than before but also introduced new features such as the aforementioned land vehicles. Now, fans can look forward to its highly anticipated expansion arriving later this month, Shattered Space on 30 September.

In our hands-off preview of the expansion, GAMINGbible’s Kate said: “There’s still a lot I don’t know about Starfield’s Shattered Space expansion, but I can’t shake the feeling that what’s on the way is exactly what the game needs. I hope that whatever answer lies at the heart of the mystery, that it’s as interesting as the base game’s take on New Game Plus.”

Yet, no matter what content updates that developers release it sometimes feels like the ever-vibrant modding community is one step ahead. One such mod is ‘Planets and Biomes Overhaul’ and it could end up being Starfield's biggest overhaul yet, created by VolaticWolf.

This fantastic mod which will be available via Nexusmods soon makes Starfield look better than ever by adding new colour palettes to the game's planets as well as improved biomes, and you can even land on asteroids and gas giants.

What’s more, this mod is coming to Xbox via the Creation Club which surprises me, because mods as substantial as this are often exclusive to PC. So this is fantastic news for all Starfield fans.

There is no release date as to when the ‘Planets and Biomes Overhaul’ will be released but hopefully, it's not too far away. Starfield is out now on PC and Xbox Series X/S, it’s also available via Xbox Game Pass.
