The Nintendo Wii is without a doubt one of the greatest consoles Nintendo ever made, and it’s still fondly thought of today.
If its expansive library is ever added to Nintendo Switch Online, it’d be a monumental occasion for fans but in the meantime, you can play your entire Wii collection and more for free on PC, with all the enhancements modern hardware brings.
But for those who are bored replaying games like Super Mario Galaxy or The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword in the same exact way, this latest breakthrough in emulation might be for you.
Nintendo fans will undoubtedly be familiar with the Dolphin emulator which allows you to play ROMs of both Nintendo GameCube and Nintendo Wii games on PC.
The ROMs need to be ripped from your own physical copy of the game you want to play though. Downloading ROMs from the internet is piracy so don’t get yourself in trouble, especially when Nintendo has a very strict stance on the matter.

For those who can legally enjoy Dolphin and everything it has to offer though, listen up as the Nintendo Wii support just got a major update that changes everything.
Coming straight from VRified Games on X, “A brand new version of Dolphin VR/XR is in active development, all the dolphin VR features have been successfully ported over to the latest build of Dolphin emulator.”
This is incredible as it means Nintendo Wii games can now be turned into full-on VR experiences, starting with Super Mario Galaxy.
Footage of the game running in VR accompanied the post and it looks swell, though with all the flying and spinning we’re questioning how quickly players will get motion sickness…

Nausea aside this has huge implications for other Nintendo Wii games that’d actually work really well in VR provided it can be done.
Skyward Sword for instance would be a great fit especially with the motion controls making you feel like you’re actually swinging around the Master Sword.
Mario Kart Wii would be another good example, as first-person racing games have been around for years and yet Mario Kart rarely lets us see directly behind the wheel.

The opportunities are limitless here and it’s going to be so fun seeing what this bold, new form of Dolphin can do.
It’s worth keeping an eye on but remember in order to legally use Dolphin you need to use your own ROMs, please don’t pirate them online.
