Super Mario Galaxy 2 has received the fan-made remaster treatment, and it’s sending Nintendo gamers wild.
Released back in 2010, Super Mario Galaxy 2 remained one of the most popular Mario games for the Wii thanks to its intuitive motion controls and creative gameplay.
In the years since, fans have wished for a return to the Galaxy series even in the wake of other popular Mario games such as Super Mario 3D World and Super Mario Odyssey.
While it looks like we probably won’t get a new Super Mario Galaxy game again, or at least for a long time, fans have taken the steps to remaster the original Super Mario Galaxy 2, and the results are gorgeous.

The Super Mario Galaxy 2 HD Texture mod increases texture quality for different models and objects in the world of the game, as well as improving the resolution for the HUD elements and other sprites.
Before you get too excited, bear in mind that this is only for use with legally-obtained emulated copies of the game. You won’t be able to use this on your old Wii without a bit of tinkering.

“Yeah, both Mario Galaxy 1 & 2 look amazing with the texture packs,” writes one fan on Reddit.
“I haven’t played 2 yet but 1 looks amazing,” another comment reads.
“It's the definitive way to enjoy these titles, way better than on my Switch,” writes another. The original Super Mario Galaxy was re-released for Nintendo Switch in 2020 in the Super Mario 3D All-Stars collection.
Hopefully an official remaster of the game happens at some point in the future. Nintendo has been steadily picking away at various older titles to bring to the Switch and Switch 2, but as it has now gone through most of the Wii U library, it’s time for more original Wii titles to make it over.
