Decorating our belongings is a part of human nature, even if those belongings just so happen to be virtual and it seems as though Nintendo agrees.

Over recent years, it seems as though video game companies have backed away from personalization and customisation when it comes to some of our favourite platforms.

Growing up, I remember being able to choose from a variety of backgrounds and profile images for my PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo handheld.

However, as next-gen consoles are released, it seems to no longer be a priority.

That being said, it seems as though Nintendo is listening to fans by regularly releasing batches of icons, backgrounds and even avatar frames for Nintendo Switch and now Nintendo Switch 2 users and this month is no exception.

This time, the batch of freebies all center around both Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 and include 14 icons, five backgrounds and five frames.

Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 were released back in 2007 and 2010 respectively with the platformers being instant hits for the Nintendo Wii.

With both games now set to head to the Nintendo Switch next month, there is no better time to celebrate the nostalgic titles than by decorating your Switch profile in dedication.

As mentioned, this batch features 14 icons which include none other than Mario himself as well as Boo, three different coloured Lumas, Rosalina, Star Bunny, Princess Peach and Bowser.

There are also different coloured frames and backgrounds to match whichever theme you are aiming for so there is definitely something to suit everyone.

Each icon costs 10 Platinum coins whilst the frames and backgrounds are just five but luckily, Nintendo’s Platinum coins are earned simply by purchasing and playing games on the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 so there is no doubt that you have some stored away.

The icons will rotate weekly up until 15 October so if you want to celebrate Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 in style, you had better hurry.

However, once you have ‘purchased’ them, they are yours to keep forever.

Last but not least, you can access the free icons via the Nintendo Switch home screen by going to ‘Nintendo Switch Online’ and then selecting the ‘Missions & Rewards’ section and they are available for Nintendo Switch Online users.

As mentioned, both Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 will be heading to Nintendo Switch consoles on 2 October so if you missed out on the Nintendo Wii entries, now is the perfect time to catch up with Mario and friends.
