Nintendo has released a set of new free downloads based on Super Mario for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 users.
This year saw the 40th anniversary of Super Mario Bros., a game that saw its lead characters become pop cultural icons.
This was celebrated with re-releases of both Super Mario Galaxy games, as well as a Switch 2 upgrade for Super Mario Bros. Wonder confirmed to be coming early next year. As Nintendo readies up for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie next April and further expands into the film industry, it’s now released some new Mario-themed freebies for Switch and Switch 2 fans.
Nintendo Switch Online users can now grab some new Mario-themed icons to use on their Switch profiles.

As seen by NSO Icon Alerts, this selection of new icons is based on various Mario properties rather than one specific game.
For starters, we have a few sets of icons based on Super Mario Bros. Wonder and Super Mario 3D World.
There are also icons taken from Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Super Mario Odyssey, ensuring a decent selection of varied icons for you to redeem.
How to redeem these icons
To redeem these icons, boot up your Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2 and go to the Nintendo Switch Online app. Here, find “Missions & Rewards”, and you’ll be able to redeem the icons.
Obviously, you’ll also need an active Nintendo Switch Online subscription to pick them up as well, though it doesn’t matter which tier you’re subscribed to.
You won’t have long to redeem these rewards, as they’re only available in the Nintendo Switch Online app until 24th November.
Similarly, Nintendo Switch Online also has a bunch of Animal Crossing icons available to download right now. However, these will be able to be claimed by 1 December, giving you a bit more time in case you’re away from your console.
As for other Nintendo-related news, the company recently revealed the cast for the next movie, titled The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. Brie Larson will be joining the sequel playing Rosalina, while Benny Safdie will be playing Bowser Jr. It’ll be released in cinemas on 3rd April, 2026.
Meanwhile, Nintendo has also revealed some new images from The Legend of Zelda live-action movie.
It stars Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link and Bo Bragason as Princess Zelda, and is scheduled for release in cinemas on 7th May, 2027.
