It’s 10 March today, a relatively ordinary day for many. But for fans of Nintendo games, today marks the 11th official annual Mario Day.

Beginning in 2015 with Nintendo’s first official recognition of Mario Day (also known as MAR10 Day), the day is often used as a celebration of all things Super Mario, and often comes with announcements, discounts, and other special messages.

As is tradition, a new set of Super Mario freebies have just hit Nintendo Switch Online to celebrate Mario Day. Let’s dive in, shall we?

These freebies come in the form of icons for your Nintendo Switch Online account, where you can redeem them for a small number of Platinum Points and use them on your profile avatar.

The latest wave of icons includes various Mario-themed designs, featuring characters like the big man himself, Bowser, Peach, Luigi, and many more. They’re available for 10 Platinum Points each.

As it’s meant to be a celebration of the franchise in general, you can also find these icons are taken from many different games, such as Super Mario Bros. Wonder, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and Super Mario Odyssey. Basically, a huge range of games that all play differently.

There are also a large assortment of backgrounds and frames which are inspired by the Mario series, each one available for 5 points each.

If you’d like to grab these items for yourself, simply load up your Nintendo Switch or Switch 2 and head to the Nintendo Switch Online app.

Once in here, go to Missions and Rewards to find the new wave of icons, where you can redeem each one for the corresponding Platinum Points.

If you don’t have enough points, you can earn more by performing any of the various tasks available in the Nintendo Switch Online app. Called ‘missions’, these might be as simple as playing a specific game on Nintendo Switch or doing a certain Nintendo-related activity.

It’s actually quite easy to earn Platinum Points, though it can be tricky to earn enough points if you’re someone who continues to redeem every single Nintendo Switch Online icon available to them.

My advice would be to just grab the ones that interest you. Since you can only feature one avatar on your profile at a time, it’s better to rotate them out when you feel like it, rather than just redeeming every icon for the sake of it.
