Nintendo gamers rejoice, as a new batch of Super Mario themed free downloads has just been released.
The 40th anniversary of Super Mario Bros. has come and gone, and fans still have so much to look forward to.
There’s the upcoming movie sequel, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, plus a Switch 2 upgrade for Super Mario Bros. Wonder. And I bet we’ll see more Mario-related projects later in 2026.
If you’re looking to deck out your Switch Online profile with some new Super Mario freebies though, be sure to check out this new release from Nintendo.

New Super Mario themed Switch icons are available
As spotted by X (formerly Twitter) user NSO Icon Alerts, the selection of Super Mario-related icons available on Nintendo Switch Online has now changed, and a fresh batch can now be grabbed from the app.
These new icons feature side and supporting characters from the Mario franchise alongside the main ones, including a Boo Ghost, Penguin, and a Red Yoshi. You’ve also got some Mario variants like his Tanooki and Drill versions, for a bit of extra flair.

There are also icons based on Mario Kart 8 Deluxe too, for the racing aficionados out there. Icons based on the iconic Blue Shell and Lightning Bolt items are present, as are icons featuring Mario, Toad, and Lakitu. It’s quite a large selection, really.

In addition to this are a bunch of frames and backgrounds which can also be used with your new fancy icons, allowing you to combine a bunch of different features to make something unique.
If you’d like to claim these icons, you’ll need to load up your Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2 console and head to the Nintendo Switch Online app, which can be found on the home screen.
Once you’ve done that, go to the Missions & Rewards section and you’ll find a place to redeem the icons to use on your profile.
Of course, you’ll need an active Nintendo Switch Online subscription too in order to pick them up, but it doesn’t matter which tier you’re subscribed to.

If you’d like to claim these items, make sure you do so by 1st December. At that point, they’ll be discontinued and Nintendo will replace them with a new set of icons.
With Christmas quickly approaching next month, I’d imagine there’ll be some great things on offer to grab for members in December.
