Mario Kart fans will soon be able to enjoy the best game in the series on PC thanks to a new unofficial port coming next month.
We’ve reported many times on various unofficial PC ports that have cropped up over the last few years thanks to recompilation, and it seems as though Mario Kart is next up to get this treatment.
YouTuber Patchzy has now revealed Mario Kart Wiicompiled, a static recompilation of the original Wii game to PC that is due to be released next month.
Although details are light, this port of the game will be rebuilt for PC gamers, meaning it’ll come with basic controller and keyboard controls, as opposed to the motion controls which appeared in the original release.

It’ll include all of the original 32 tracks which appeared in Mario Kart Wii, however support for Retro Rewind is also featured if you want to add more content to the game.
With Retro Rewind installed, over 200 more tracks become available to race on based on levels which appeared in other Mario Kart games, including newer ones which appear in Mario Kart World.

Patchzy has released a trailer showcasing the port, giving us a closer look at what the game will look like when it enters public beta.
The trailer features a closer look at some of the custom tracks which appear in Retro Rewind, like SW2 Crown City and SW2 Bowser’s Castle. It’s a little odd to see them in Mario Kart Wii, but the mod developer has done a decent job at porting the tracks over.
The footage we’ve seen so far also shows that the graphics will remain the same as in the original, with textures and character models remaining the same as in the original release. However, we’ve seen with unofficial ports like Ship of Harkinian and Animal Crossing that adding updated textures through modding is also possible.
But even with that aside, Patchzy’s port will also feature an uncapped framerate and 4K resolution support, so it’ll already look a lot better than the Wii version based on that alone.
Mario Kart Wiicompiled will launch into a beta next month, with further updates making optimisations and improvements as time goes on.
Released in 2008 for the Nintendo Wii, Mario Kart Wii is the sixth game in the Mario Kart series and received a Metacritic score of 82/100 at the time.
We’d argue it deserves a better score than that, especially considering how fun the game is to play in a party with other people.
It went on to be one of the most popular games on the Nintendo Wii, selling 37.38 million copies, and being the second bestselling game on that platform behind only Wii Sports.
It was later followed up by Mario Kart 7 for the Nintendo 3DS, which became the bestselling game on that platform with 19 million copies sold.
