breaking news

When it was originally revealed earlier this summer, Until Dawn 2 simply confirmed a planned launch window of 2027.
As of today's State of Play event, we now know that there isn't too much longer to wait for Firesprite's exciting sequel, taking over development duties from Supermassive Games who created the original 2015 horror hit.
Until Dawn 2 will officially launch on PlayStation on January 28, 2027 - and even more excitingly, it's been confirmed to be a direct sequel to the original Until Dawn.
That may sound obvious but actually, the initial trailer for Until Dawn 2 didn't exactly provide that impression, suggesting more of an anthology format with an entirely new cast of characters.

However, in the game's newest trailer, we see several of the characters visiting the abandoned Blackwood Pines Sanatorium on Blackwood Mountain - a key setting within the first game.
There, they have a run-in with the wendigos who still seem to occupy the mountain, with the infamous 'Don't Move' mechanic set to return.

As for why these new characters are at Blackwood Mountain, Until Dawn 2's synopsis reveals more.
It reads, "The Dead True ghost-hunting crew are chasing their biggest story yet. After an investigation at Blackwood Sanitorium takes a chilling turn, an encounter with supernatural survivor Yoona leads them to Akishima Island, a remote paradise abandoned for decades and hiding secrets far older than any of them imagined."
The synopsis continues, "As the night unfolds, your choices will decide what happens next. Follow a signal in search of a missing friend, or risk a detour that could uncover vital clues. Make the sacrifice you’re told to make, or choose another way. Every decision can change the story, and determine who survives."

The team behind Dispatch helped craft Until Dawn 2's story
A few of those 'butterfly effect' decisions are showcased in the trailer, including whether to sacrifice a rooster or slash your palm, and whether to follow a signal or cross a bridge. The outcomes are teased for the latter and honestly, neither looks great for the affected character's prospects.
What many will now want to know is whether any characters from that initial game will return, outside of Dr. Hill who is already confirmed.
It's not been detailed how exactly Dr. Hill factors in but pre-orders for Until Dawn 2 open up on September 10 and those who do pre-order will unlock:
- Until Dawn classic outfit
- Akishima Island holiday outfit
- Dr. Hill collector’s bobbleheads to discover in-game
The Digital Deluxe Edition will also include:
- Y2K Neon Vibes Pack: Dress all eight members of Dead True – Owen, Mina, Nate, Reagan, Izzy, Luke, Josie, and Cameron – in vibrant neon costumes.
- Diorama of Death: Relive every grisly demise with vignettes exploring unique angles of each fatal outcome. Can you unlock every scene?
In the recent remake of Until Dawn, a new post-credits scene was added showing Hayden Panettiere's character Sam still troubled by her experiences with the supernatural world, some years on from the events of the base game.
This seemingly canonised her survival despite the character very much being killable. As such, many expect Sam to return in some capacity although that's not been confirmed, especially considering the tragic recent passing of Panettiere.
On the PlayStation blog, it was revealed that Firesprite actually teamed up with AdHoc, the brilliant team behind 2025's Dispatch, to concoct Until Dawn 2's story which has sent our expectations soaring as Dispatch is a 10 out 10 GOTY worthy banger.
We can't wait to see this one land in just a few months time.
