Last week saw the long-awaited Fallout: London fanmade expansion finally release and although it has only been a few days, it has already received rave reviews.

The project that was five-years in the making takes the post-apocalyptic RPG outside of the U.S. for the first time and better yet, it is completely free to download and enjoy.

Overhauling Fallout 4, Fallout: London has “a new story, new weapons, London-centric items and a vast recreation of the ruined city to explore”.

“There has never been a better time to sample the capital’s delights,” the official synopsis reads.

“Fallout: London lets you explore the wonders of the city 160 years after the bombs have dropped, and 40 years before the events of Fallout 3.”

It is this ruined city that many players are falling in love with as the Fallout: London map may be the size of Fallout 4 but has a lot more locations to explore.

In comparison to Fallout 3, Fallout 4 and Fallout: New Vegas which sees you explore a barren wasteland, Fallout: London is set in a primarily urban area which allows the players to come across a lot of amazingly detailed locations.

The map reportedly takes around twenty minutes to cover from top to bottom and according to the official FAQ, it covers areas from “Westminster all the way to the rolling hills on the outskirts of Bromley.”

Although some buildings are blocked up and inaccessible, you can still explore the others and those familiar with London will recognise some major landmarks, albeit looking a bit more banged-up.

So although Fallout 4’s map is slightly larger, Fallout: London already seems a lot more detailed than the Commonwealth we know and love.

Fallout: London is free to download for PC users courtesy of GOG and players must already own Fallout 4: Game of the Year Edition on Steam.
