Baldur's Gate 3 new Astarion ending is straight out of Twilight

Astarion is one of the most well-known characters in gaming thanks to Baldur's Gate 3, and this mod lets you run away with him.

Baldur’s Gate 3 stands as one of the greatest RPGs ever made. So good that gamers are hungry for a fourth game, though they’ll have to settle for another Divinity first.

Its Dungeons & Dragons-style gameplay certainly helped it along, but the real pull of Baldur’s Gate 3 has always been the characters.

Karlach, Shadowheart, Lae'zel and, of course, Astarion, are now amongst the most well-known characters in gaming, and a new mod for Baldur’s Gate 3 gives the latter a new, romantic ending.

Ride off into the sunset with Astarion thanks to this new mod quest expansion

As we should all know by now, Astarion is famously a vampire. When you meet him early into your playthrough, the only reason he’s not burning to a crisp in the sunlight is because the tadpole in his head is preventing him from doing so.

Now if you follow the right questline, you can turn him into an ascended vampire, which grants him the ability to exist in sunlight without the tadpole suppressing that famous weakness.

The alternate ending, however, is removing the tadpole without subjecting him to the necessary ritual. If you do that, your party will be forced to say goodbye to him at the docks as he flees from the sun.

Follow Astarion - New Endgame Cutscene is an add-on for the second ending and you'll find it on NexusMods. It honestly feels like it was ripped straight out of a Twilight fan-fiction novel, which is ironic because Twilight started its life as a fan-fiction too.

Created by HyperspaceTowel, this mod encourages you to “go after your vampire boyfriend on the docks”.

It requires you to have a relationship with Astarion prior to this ending, which can be done by simply romancing him with certain dialogue choices and actions.

Then when he inevitably tries to flee as his skin starts melting away, “your character will go looking for him after he runs from the sun”.

The mod’s description also reiterates that you need to be “physically present on the docks at the end to get the cutscene -- so it won't happen if you go to Avernus, fly away with a frog, go insane and run off, etc etc.”

This is the perfect mod for those who’ve dreamed of running away with Astarion and living happily ever after, which seems to be a lot of players judging from some of the unsavoury tweets and comments we saw when the game first released…

It’s unlikely we’ll ever see him again in a future game. If Baldur’s Gate 4 ever does get made, it’ll obviously follow a new cast of characters, though perhaps some familiar faces will appear as cameos throughout the story.

Your best bet for more Astarion content is the upcoming Baldur’s Gate TV series. The cast hasn’t been confirmed as of yet so perhaps the characters from the video game will make their live-action debut, with everyone’s favourite vampire amongst them.
