Call Of Duty fans think Warzone ruined the franchise

Call Of Duty fans are blaming Warzone for the state of the franchise, believing Activision favour it above normal multiplayer.

Since its introduction in 2020, the free-to-play Call Of Duty battle-royale, Warzone, has become enormously popular, receiving several updates and adding new content and upgrades to the game.

Despite raking in millions of concurrent players, as well as boasting several high-profile collaborations, like Amazon’s The Boys, Nicki Minaj, and recently Lara Croft from Tomb Raider, fans reportedly hold it responsible for the fall of the franchise.

While Call Of Duty Modern Warfare (2019) and Call Of Duty Modern Warfare II (2022), was well-liked amongst the community, the multiplayer haven’t quite lived up to their predecessors, many of which can be played right now on Xbox due to the servers being revived.

The Twitter account ModernWarzone asked fans: “Did Warzone ruin the multiplayer side of Call of Duty?” which was met with a resounding “yes” from the community, many of which believe Activision favours Warzone over anything else due to its microtransactions.

“Hands down. COD don't care about their game anymore. Just Warzone.”

“Hell yeah it did. But also strict EOMM/SBMM along side WZ ruined MP. It’s like MP’s almost ‘forgotten’ in a way. WZ and DMZ are getting all the love and attention.”

“Yes. It was very evident in the beginning too with MW19 MP. How the classic prestige system was scrapped and unified with Warzone for whatever reason (we had a fully fleshed, dedicated Prestige system for MP, Zombies, and Blackout in BO4). MP felt left in the dust after WZ”

With the release of Call Of Duty Modern Warfare III on the way, fans can only hope and wonder what the state of the multiplayer will be like for the next entry, though it’s likely it’ll feature integration with Warzone in some capacity. As for the actual multiplayer component, nothing has been revealed apart from it’ll include revamped maps from Modern Warfare II.

Call Of Duty Modern Warfare III will be released on the 10th of November later this year for Xbox, PlayStation and PC platforms.
