For years now we’ve wanted a proper follow-up to Red Dead Redemption’s Undead Nightmare DLC and when Rockstar Games finally had the opportunity with Red Dead Redemption 2 that opportunity came and went.
Unless Rockstar shocks the world and makes a modern version for Grand Theft Auto VI we’re going to be waiting many years more, but there are plenty of alternatives if you know where to look.
One excellent alternative found on PC, Xbox and PlayStation platforms is about to get a new DLC, giving players the peak, endless Undead Nightmare experience they’ve always dreamed of.
For those who just love it when the Wild West collides with eldritch horror Blood West is the game for you.
It describes itself as an “immersive stealth FPS” where players “become the Undead Gunslinger, doomed to roam the barren lands until he manages to purge their curse, freeing his soul.”

The full game offers over 20 hours of gameplay and is well-worth playing if you miss Rockstar Games’ glory days of DLC. and it makes the deal all the more sweet Blood West is soon getting DLC of its own.
Blood West: Scavengers is a new, endless roguelite mode being added to the game, where players strap in for as many rounds of undead combat as they can bare.
A beta was made available to interested players and the feedback was positive, prompting publisher New Blood Interactive to announce yesterday: “You played the beta...
You told us you were ready...We'll see y'all in a month. Blood West: Scavengers launches on June 3rd for just $5 and as part of the new Blood West: GOLD Edition.”
$5 for a mode that you’ll probably get endless enjoyment out of is a pretty sweet deal, and we’re excited to reenact John Marston’s final stand surrounded by monsters rather than men.
The game getting a gold edition is also a nice touch as it means new players will be able to experience everything the game has to offer, albeit at a slightly higher price of course.
Honestly the only thing that’d make it better is if Blood West was available through PlayStation Plus or Xbox Game Pass but alas, that’s not the case.
Hopefully we’ve put Blood West on your radar though as it’s a solid FPS game that offers much more than its new roguelite mode.
While it’s not the sequel to Undead Nightmare we’ve dreamed of, it unfortunately won’t come from anyone but Rockstar Games, and judging from Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2 Rockstar is only interested in DLC if it’s for its online modes.
You never know though, perhaps Rockstar has more surprises in mind than just GTA VI’s third trailer…
