Red Dead Redemption 2 is widely considered to be one of the greatest games of all-time and an improvement upon its predecessor, Red Dead Redemption.
There is something, though, that Red Dead Redemption did so brilliantly that its sequel, for whatever reason, didn’t replicate.
After finishing up the main campaign, Red Dead Redemption players could enjoy the excellent Undead Nightmare expansion.
This non-canon DLC would see you face off against the undead as John Marston set out to find a cure for the zombie plague impacting the Wild West.

Why Rockstar Games never followed up this excellent DLC with Undead Nightmare 2, we’ll never know.
However, there is a silver lining as The Dark West looks set to be the spiritual successor we’ve all been waiting for with a new teaser trailer granting a glimpse at gameplay.
The Dark West is an upcoming action RPG from developer Black Hand that’s currently set to land only on PC storefront Steam.
The game, unsurprisingly, takes players to a “cursed western frontier, where faith and damnation war beanth an eternal dusk”.
“An occult west lies under a sun that refuses to rise,” the synopsis begins.
“The land bears the wretched marks of what people wanted and what they were willing to do for it. Choose characters shaped by difficult pasts.
“Faith still has a say. Damnation does too. Violence settles most questions, and the rest are answered by choices that haunt your soul.”
Played from a top-down perspective, players will select gear and embark upon making their way through his punishing landscape, slaying the undead that stand in their way.
The Dark West promises to boast “deep, dark progression”, so you’re able to shape your character, slowly acquiring new skills and legendary weapons.
Combat is described as “fast-paced, strategic, and unforgiving”. You won’t simply be able to use the same tactics against every enemy.
There are seemingly power-ups which can change the tide of battle too. Alcohol, for example, is readily available and can boost your strength, but it can also dull the senses.
You can get a feel for what The Dark West has to offer in the teaser trailer below.
The trailer appears to have stirred up some hype for the game, and it’s always nice to see an independent title doing well in that regard.
“Let’s go. Looks so good, can’t wait,” wrote one viewer.
“Mannn, I cannot wait! Looks so amazing guys/gals! Fantastic work and appreciate ya,” added another.
Unfortunately, there’s still no release date for The Dark West despite the fact that it’s gained a new trailer, but we do know that it’ll launch in early access first.
You can wishlist the title now so hopefully it surfaces later this year as many gamers will surely like to get their hands on this one sooner rather than later.
