Epic Games Store saves gamers over $30 with two stellar freebies this weekend

If you're in need of a weekend switch-off, either with yourself or a familiar duo, the Epic Games Store has just dropped two freebies that are perfect for an easy break from reality.

Each week, Epic Games drops an indie title that is intended to spice up your gaming experience without having to spend a penny.

Sometimes, they're too niche for all gamers but absolutely bang for a small portion of the community. Other times, they are unmissable savings, even if you don't play them right away; claiming for a later date is sometimes the name of the game.

This week, though, the goldilocks formula has been applied as Epic Games has dropped two freebies that save gamers £25 and offer a range of gameplay from cutesy narrative thrillers to a challenging co-op puzzler.

Epic Games' freebies of the week

For the second week in a row, the Epic Games Store freebie offerings are twice as plentiful as before, with two titltes being claimable: Beacon Pines and We Were Here Together.

Beacon Pines

Described as a cute and creepy adventure set within a mysterious book, Beacon Pines is one to be played with fuzzy socks equipped and a steamy hot chocolate - just in time as the scorching warm weather begins to cool down.

"As the book's reader, you’ll navigate the story’s turning points using The Chronicle: an interactive story tree that branches and grows along with your choices. Exploring one set of events can unlock new charms to use on another branch, leading you to jump back and forth between entirely different versions of the story in order to unravel the mysteries at the heart of Beacon Pines," the developers' synopsis reads.

The 2022 title has been reduced from £16 and boasts an 86 percent positive review rate as players vow that the 'fast-moving and suspenseful plot' takes the game to deeper levels than the original, sometimes overlooked, design of the game.

We Were Here Together

The second of the freebies is We Were Here Together, which comes as a co-op escape-adventure title where two characters work together to survive the seething, bitter cold of a post-blizzard disaster.

"We were not alone... Darkness has engulfed the once magnificent Castle Rock and its surroundings. Can you discover the truth behind the grim fate of the fallen citadel and make it out alive... or will the original inhabitants catch you on your way out?" says the game description.

This £10 title from Total Mayhem Games is a challenge; there's a relentless difficulty as the co-op experience tests relationships, but it will leave you all the stronger if you manage to escape Castle Rock.

Both of these indie games will be hiked back up to their original prices as of August 13, when Caravan Sandwitch will take over.
