Assassin's Creed Black Flag remake player discovers hilarious Rickroll Easter egg

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced players are teleported back to 2007 after a hilarious Rickroll was discovered in the Ubisoft remake.

One of the most fun aspects of 2013’s Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag was its sense of adventure, sailing the open sea and exploring its Caribbean tropical islands, and 2026’s Resynced is no exception.

However, weeks after its launch, an Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced player discovered a Rickroll easter egg in the game, but it’s probably not quite the same Rickroll you’d expect.

How to find the Rick Astley easter egg in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced

As brought to our attention by IXBT Games, Reddit user MutantLeagueMVP discovered a secret Sea Shanty that was a little different from the others in the remake.

The Sea Shanty in question is called “Home Across the Sea”, and the eagle-eyed Redditor noticed very subtle faded silhouettes of Rick Astley on the songsheet, taken from the music video for “Never Gonna Give You Up”.

He’s never gonna let you down.

To get hold of the songsheet, you need to visit Nassau (coordinates: 597,767) and approach a drunk NPC singing near an armoury. Listen to the NPC for half a minute or so, and eventually, he’ll give you the songsheet. MutantLeagueMVP, who can seemingly read music notes, reveals that the song sheet also has the words “Never Gonna Give You Up”.

“That is incredible,” replied Impossible_Code_5844, with Sleepiest_Spider adding, “That's pretty good.”

Once you’ve acquired the “Home Across the Sea” Shanty, you can select your crew to sing it on the Jackdaw. It’s just a shame that there wasn't an actual clip of the Rick Astley music video, but that’s probably to avoid Ubisoft from paying the license holders to use it.

It will be interesting to see if similar easter eggs are discovered in the months and years ahead. Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is out now on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
