Ubisoft has seemingly removed a cool Edward Kenway gameplay feature in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, and gamers are feeling disappointed.
Earlier this month, we were treated to the fantastic remake of Ubisoft’s 2013 beloved entry in the Assassin’s Creed series starring the endlessly charismatic Edward Kenway. The remake improved on the original in almost every way, whether it's the visuals, combat, parkour, stealth and more.
Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced has been embraced by the community, earning aligned and respectable scores of 84 and 8.5 from critics and users on Metacritic. Then, just a couple of weeks after its launch, Ubisoft announced that the remake had sold over three million copies, with that number growing by the day.

While this is by no means game-breaking, far from it in fact, it is a subtle but fun feature that made Edward Kenway look even cooler than he already is. It was also a fantastic feature for snapping awesome screenshots with the Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced photo mode.

“Did Ubisoft remove the ability to toggle your hood while sliding and leaping?” asked Redditor Artistic_Context_906.
“I booted up Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced after the recent update, and I was sad to find that the ability to hood toggle while sliding, and while in a mid-air leap of faith was removed, like, why? It was so cool, why did they patch that out?” they continued.
“Same for me. Heartbroken,” replied Lemongravity, with Artistic_Context_906, adding, “Is fun not allowed anymore?”
“That's such a random thing to patch out; it wasn't even breaking anything, just a fun little detail. I wouldn't be surprised if it's an unintended side effect of whatever else they touched in the update rather than something intentional,” said Fun-Engineering3451.
To be honest, only Ubisoft knows the answer to that. It’s a very odd feature to remove, as it doesn't negatively impact gameplay, nor does it break anything. It’s just a cool feature that’s there if you want to use it.
We hope that Ubisoft responds to fan feedback positively and returns the ability to pull up Edward’s hood while sliding and diving in its next update.
To the credit of Ubisoft, the developers responded fantastically to community feedback regarding its last game, 2024’s Assassin’s Creed Shadows, so hopefully, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced will be no exception.
“The developers at Ubisoft have clearly gone to great lengths to ensure that this remake deserves to exist, and it’s very clear after spending many hours with the game that it’s a love letter to the fans and the developers,” we said in our review.
“The folks at Ubisoft have made one of the best games ever, even better. Whether you’re a returning veteran or a newbie, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is the definitive way to experience this all-time classic.”
Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is out now on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
