Stardew Valley players can now pick up a brand new free overhaul which completely changes one of the game’s most divisive features.
You may feel free to disagree, but some players find Stardew Valley’s fishing features a little boring. Others enjoy it, so your mileage may vary. But generally, it’s been a rather divisive feature for the game to have.
That’s why some modders have attempted to spice it up over the years with new features, changes, and facelifts to make the fishing experience a little more enjoyable.
That’s where this new mod from creator Raven7s comes in, who has attempted to deliver a more action-oriented approach to Stardew Valley’s fishing mechanics for players to use.

Their mod, Fishing Overhaul, reimagines this mechanic to pack in a lot more tension, focusing on managing this tension on your line and timing your reel to make the perfect catch.
With this mod installed, your fishing level now directly determines base reel speed, where gaining new levels grants additional base pulling power. You also get a quality guarantee, where level 4 fishing guarantees a silver star, and level 8 guarantees a gold star.

Some new mechanics include adding a stamina and fatigue system for your catches, where as fishing time increases, the fish’s stamina gradually depletes.
This means that after struggling for more than 50 seconds, the fish stamina drops to 35%, whereas Legendary fish take 75 seconds for their stamina to begin depleting, still retaining 55% stamina after becoming exhausted.
The mod also affects how tackle and bait works, with new properties being added to specific items on top of their usual vanilla behaviours.
For example, Cork Bobber now grants additional reel speed in addition to increasing the green bar size. Meanwhile, the Trap Bobber retains its vanilla logic of slowing fish escape, but also reduces tension increase rate by 30%.

Some additional changes with the mod include changing how fish quality is determined, with the calculation now chosen by a combination of your fishing level and how well executed the catch was.
To get a perfect catch now, you must catch the fish before your highest progress point drops by more than five points, and the struggle must also not exceed 12 seconds. Otherwise, it’ll lose its perfect quality.
The Fishing Overhaul mod also comes with a large number of extensive configuration options, allowing you to tweak the experience if there’s something that isn’t working for you. If you find it too difficult, or too easy on the other hand, then these options should hopefully allow you to adjust that to suit your playstyle.
Raven7s has also taken time to mention that the mod is 100% save safe, and can be added mid-playthrough for any characters. This’ll allow you to install or uninstall it at any time without worrying about your save file becoming corrupted.
