Marvel's Spider-Man 2 free prequel announced by PlayStation

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 free prequel announced by PlayStation

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 free prequel announced by PlayStation to celebrate Free Comic Book Day.

If you’re a PlayStation 5 owner, I bet I can guess which game you’re dying to get your hands on this year. Is it Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 by any chance? It’s undeniably Sony’s biggest major exclusive in 2023.

We don’t have an exact release date for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, but it’s launching later this year. According to Venom actor Tony Todd, Spider-Man 2 will swing onto our consoles in September, but that’s yet to be confirmed by Insomniac Games. The release will see Peter Parker and Miles Morales team up and Spidey actor Yuri Lowenthal has teased that the title is ‘astonishing’. Going off how incredible both games in the series have been so far, I believe that. While we wait for a full reveal and trailer though, PlayStation have confirmed a free prequel that’ll set up Peter and Miles’ upcoming caper.

Take a look at the original teaser trailer for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 below.

There is one catch. It’s a comic as opposed to playable DLC but if you enjoy the Marvel’s Spider-Man series, chances are you’re probably a fan of comics too. Over on Twitter, PlayStation announced that the prequel comic will be released for free as a part of Free Comic Book Day which is this coming weekend, on Saturday 6 May.

On the PlayStation blog, Insomniac’s narrative director Jon Paquette said, “When we initially sat down with the team at Marvel, we explored a few different ideas about what kinds of stories we could tell in a prequel comic. But we kept coming back to the same core premise - What if Peter, Miles, and MJ had to team up against a new Super Villain whose powers they didn’t understand? Additionally, we wanted to make sure that we could get a peek into what this heroic trio has been doing since the events of Marvel’s Spider-Man and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales.”

US based fans can visit their local comic book store, while international fans can view the comic via the Marvel website. That’s not all. If you’ve been wanting to play Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered - the new-gen version of Insomniac’s classic game that previously only came included with Miles Morales - later this month, you’ll finally be able to purchase the remastered game as a standalone title. What great news.
