New Marvel's Spider-Man 2 trailer is giving us major PS3 vibes

A new teaser for Marvel's Spider-Man 2 feels like it was pulled straight out of a 2000s kids TV advert, and we're here for it.

There are a lot of games to be excited about in 2023, but Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 might just be the most-hyped release of the year.

The PS5-exclusive sequel to 2018's phenomenal web-slinging adventure has a lot to live up to, but according to Peter Parker’s voice actor, Yuri Lowenthal, Insomniac Games has managed to pull it off - he teased that it’s both “massive” and “astonishing”. Sony has just released a trailer showcasing its new-gen console’s ever-expanding library, which includes a new teaser for the game, and it feels oddly nostalgic of the PS3 era.

Check out the new advertisement below.

As you can see, the section for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was short but sweet - while it unfortunately hasn’t given fans any of the gameplay footage that we’re all so excited to see, it’s oozing with 2000s TV ad vibes. You know that mix of live-action acting combined with clips from a game? Sure, it’s not that they never make them like this anymore, but you can’t tell me that it doesn’t feel like it was pulled straight from an ad break from a kids TV channel in 2008 (I mean that in the best way possible, by the way).

This particular advert actually celebrates the fact that PS5s are finally getting easier to get hold of. On Twitter, the official PlayStation account wrote: “Finding a PS5 should become easier starting this year. Thanks for your patience.”

Earlier this month (can you believe it’s still January?) the CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, Jim Ryan, said that “everyone who wants a PS5 should have a much easier time finding one at retailers globally, starting from this point forward”, so it really does sound like the company is confident that the stock shortage is over. And it only took two years!

Even though it’s taken a while, this is great news for gamers who haven’t managed to grab a PS5 yet, anyway. Given the exciting 2023 lineup we have ahead of us, it really couldn’t have come at a better time.
