It’s Hogwarts Legacy release week for PC and consoles. However, many fans are wondering if the Wizarding World action RPG works on the Steam Deck.
Well, I say it's Hogwarts Legacy release week, but for now, that only applies to PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Last-gen and Nintendo Switch gamers will have to wait a little while longer.
Developed by Avalanche Software, Hogwarts Legacy is set during the late 1800s and puts you into the gown of a fifth-year student in the wizarding school for the gifted. Players will be able to create their own character, interact and form bonds with NPCs, explore the outer grounds and much more.

However, if you thought that living the good life in the halls of Hogwarts was for the faint at heart, then think again. No matter which path you choose, you are said to hold the key to an “ancient secret that threatens to tear the wizarding world apart”. No pressure then.
So, can you play Hogwarts Legacy on the Steam Deck?
The answer to that question is a resounding, YES, you can play Hogwarts Legacy on Steam’s almighty handheld device. What’s more, according to Prima Games, Hogwarts Legacy on the Steam Deck is fairly well-optimised too.
Steam Deck is said to run Hogwarts Legacy at a stable 30FPS at 720p. The Steam Deck does have a resolution of 1280x800p and can perform at 60FPS. However, it seems 30FPS at 720p is perhaps the best compromise overall. That’s at least at the time of writing before any new patches may arrive.

The Steam Deck is said to have a battery life which can last between 2 to 8 hours depending on your settings. So it’s unlikely that you’ll be able to finish Hogwarts Legacy on a single charge.
Hogwarts Legacy releases this week for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on the 10th of February or on today for those that pre-ordered the Hogwarts Legacy Collector’s Edition or Deluxe Edition.
As for last-gen and Nintendo Switch owners, you’ll have to be a little more patient. Hogwarts Legacy will release on 4th April for PS4 and Xbox One, and then for Nintendo Switch on 25th, July.
