Hogwarts Legacy pushed aside as new open-world Harry Potter console game captures fan attention

Hogwarts Legacy's time in the spotlight may be over for now, as a new LEGO Harry Potter game is seemingly on the way.

Hogwarts Legacy’s moment in the wizarding spotlight may be over, for now at least. Harry Potter fans have turned their attention to something new as it looks as if a new LEGO Harry Potter game or collection will soon be unveiled.

There’s no denying that Hogwarts Legacy is a behemoth of a game. It sold a dizzying number of copies, and let’s not forget that we’ve still got the Nintendo Switch release to go. It’s by no means a perfect game. Many described Hogwarts as their favourite video game location of all-time, and it is exquisitely detailed, but the same can’t be said for the title’s open-world which is a tad too obsessed with caves and ruins. Still, fans are convinced that a Hogwarts Legacy sequel could be spectacular if devs were to listen to fans’ complaints - fleshing out the world and adding a working companion system. I’m sure a sequel will eventually be announced but it looks as if we have a LEGO Harry Potter announcement on the horizon.

Enjoy a tour of Hogwarts Legacy’s four house common rooms below.

Warner Bros. South Africa accidently let slip that something LEGO Harry Potter related is on the way on their Instagram page. The post was surprisingly quickly removed. The image featured a LEGO version of the titular character with the date 25 August 2023. Fans of LEGO games will know that there’s already a LEGO Harry Potter Collection bundling together the Years 1-4 and 5-7 releases, so you may be wondering exactly what is on the way.

It could well be a remake of the LEGO Harry Potter Collection featuring updated graphics. Much like last year’s The Skywalker Saga, perhaps it’ll include Fantastic Beasts DLC just as that release featured Andor and The Mandalorian characters. This is purely speculation though.

What we do know is that the Geoff Keighley-fronted Gamescom Opening Night Live is due to air on 22 August. It’s most likely that the game will be revealed there. It’s unknown whether the collection will drop immediately the next day, or whether the 23 August is simply when we’ll receive a full trailer. I’d imagine the latter but it shouldn’t be too long before we find out.
