If 007 First Light impressed you with its stealth-action gameplay and clever dialogue, we have an entire series of games to recommend next; one of them just got a stellar PC port.
2026 is the year of unofficial PC ports; that much is clear. We’ve seen major franchises like Super Mario hit PCs thanks to the wonders of decompilation, and even some classic 007 games have been part of the craze.
One of the latest recompilations is a gem from the OG Xbox era, Splinter Cell: Double Agent. This is an interesting one because Ubisoft developed and published the game during that weird in-between phase of the Xbox/Xbox 360 and PlayStation 2/PlayStation 3. To maximise sales, two versions of the game were developed for both console generations.
The version of Splinter Cell: Double Agent to receive an unofficial PC port first is the Xbox and PlayStation 2 version, and it’s a sight to behold.

Everything Splinter Cell: Double Agent on PC gets right
For starters, the game looks gorgeous. Modern hardware has allowed the visuals to be smooth without conflicting with its style. This means the shadows are still dark, but the detail is dialled up.
You can tailor the game’s visuals to your liking with a suite of options that weren’t available in the original game. Mouse and keyboard controls are also supported in addition to the usual controllers. You can see the port in action below.
The biggest improvement, however, is the multiplayer. The Splinter Cell games have had some fantastic multiplayer modes in the past, with my personal favourite being Splinter Cell: Conviction.
Splinter Cell: Double Agent’s multiplayer featured a spin-off story that played out alongside the main story, along with a PvP mode called Spies vs. Mercenaries.
Both modes are fully supported with the new PC port, making it easier than ever to play the game online with a friend, as official multiplayer support was shelved years ago. You can even use the in-game voice chat for added immersion.
While Splinter Cell: Double Agent isn’t the best game in the series, the OG Xbox version is pretty good. It’s leagues better than what Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 players got, so if you want to experience this game at its best, this PC recompilation is the way to go.
However, like all of these recompilations, you will of course need a legally obtained ROM of the game. Guides on how to access the new PC version are available online.
What we know about the Splinter Cell remake
There’s a lot of excitement around this new PC port, which means it’s probably safe to say Splinter Cell fans are dying of thirst, yet Ubisoft refuses to give them a drink.
An official Splinter Cell remake is currently in development at Ubisoft, but given the direction the studio is heading in, many fans are expecting news of a cancellation sooner or later.
For now, all we know is it’s in development with Ubisoft Toronto and will allegedly tell a modern story that takes inspiration from current-world events.
It’s also changed hands quite a bit, with a variety of different project leads coming and going during its production.
The massive layoffs Ubisoft experienced earlier this year are also expected to have had an impact on the game’s development progress.
For the time being, it’s still on the way, but there’s no telling when we might see it launch. That means you’ve got plenty of time to play Splinter Cell: Double Agent, and all of the other Splinter Cell games, if you haven’t already (or play them again if you have).
