Hogwarts Legacy fans say cancelled Potter game was never built to last

Another one bites the dust

It’s a pretty joyous time for the Wizarding World fandom.

Yesterday marked Back To Hogwarts Day which came with a slew of announcements, the most prominent of which was the fact that the LEGO Harry Potter Collection is being rereleased - this time, natively on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles.

It’ll run at 60fps, boast 4k resolution graphics, high-resolution shadow maps, and include new haptic feedback - particularly on the PlayStation 5’s DualSense controller.

That game will launch on 8 October but before then, Harry Potter fans can get their hands on Quidditch Champions as of tomorrow which’ll be launching day one on PlayStation Plus.

Let’s not forget that a director’s cut of Hogwarts Legacy has seemingly leaked online on several occasions so to say the fandom is feasting well is pretty accurate.

That being said, it’s not all sunshine and flowers.

In case you missed it, Harry Potter: Magic Awakened is being shut down in the Americas, Europe and Oceania territories as of 29 October.

Take a look at Harry Potter Quidditch Champions in action below.

That leaves players with just two months left to enjoy it but that’s hard to do when the story hasn’t even drawn to a close yet.

The game will continue on in other parts of the world but for the areas listed above, it’s already been removed from sale with in-game purchases frozen.

Developers thanked players for their “enthusiasm and passion” but that hasn’t quelled the outrage.

“My best friend plays this game and has played it every day for a year. This is a part of her routine and something she has counted on to calm her down and be a rock when needed,” Reddit user donkeyknuckles wrote. “The abrupt way they’re doing this is completely jarring to her and I’m sure to thousands of others.”

“Modern games are not built to sustain, because the market has become too competitive for that,” replied GhelasOfAnza, and Magic Awakened’s performance will certainly have been a defining factor behind its closure.

“I have also played for over a year with this game and I am destroyed,” commented Then_Hand_2977.

It continues to be a shame to see how the volatility of the live service market is costing so many players to lose hard-earned purchases.

Harry Potter: Magic Awakened will remain available until 29 October.
