Harry Potter and Hogwarts Legacy players alike will be left feeling gutted as a new game inspired by the Wizarding World is cancelled.
When it comes to massive movie franchises adapted from novels, it doesn't get much more popular than the world of Harry Potter. To say that the movies from Warner Bros. Pictures made a massive cultural impact would be an understatement.
It’s probably fair to say that for many fans, their introduction to the Wizarding World started with the movies before moving on to the novels.

The success of the movie franchise would then spawn video games, theme park attractions, endless merchandise and more. Oh, and we’re also getting a live-action reboot, a new TV series from HBO.
When it comes to video game adaptations, it’s been a mixed bag of magic tricks for Harry Potter fans. We had one decent game on the original PlayStation with The Chamber of Secrets, as well as a superb LEGO game and, more recently, Hogwarts Legacy.
A Harry Potter Game Is Reportedly Cancelled Behind Closed Doors
However, as brought to our attention by Insider Gaming, the YouTube channel Gamertag VR claimed in a video that Meta had a Harry Potter VR game in development, created by Skydance, before it was abruptly cancelled.
“Meta cancelled several exclusive games, one of which was going to be a Harry Potter official VR game,” he claimed in the video. “It was being made by Skydance.”
There’s no telling whether this game would have been any good or not. I would assume, if it was promising, it may not have been cancelled.

"Then again, it’s not like we haven't seen a plethora of promising video games suddenly cancelled over the years.
“Meta cancelled VR. Period,” claimed Redditor Z3M0G, suggesting that interest in games on the platform has dwindled.
“Bummer, it has a lot of potential. The Harry Potter wand mod in Blade and Sorcery is super fun to play with, despite it taking a while to learn the gestures,” exclaimed Kurdependence.
“I think throwing an IP into VR just isn't exciting to any of us anymore. We want to see some actual game ideas that are fun to play,” explained Dewittless.

“I had a VR headset for a while and ended up selling it because all the games were largely the same. 'Here's a gun,' experience, or really short immersive things that were fun for a couple of hours.”
I would like to think that this cancelled Harry Potter VR game might get revived at some point, but I won't be holding my breath.
