What a year it’s already been for video gaming.
In the last few days alone, Resident Evil Reqiuem and Pokémon Pokopia have entered the GOTY conversation.
Both will set you back a pretty penny though, so I’d like to provide you with a pleasant little free alternative if you don’t have $70 to splash.
Take a Hint is a brand new visual novel from indie devs Floramisu and Byutaki and publisher Skull Queens Games.
Complete This Cathartic Indie Hit in a Single Session
“Take a Hint is a comic-style visual novel where you control Delfina and must convince your best friend Ailén that her boyfriend is not good for her,” the synopsis teases.

“It won't be easy, and no one will leave until the truth comes out.”
The game centres around the ideas of infidelity and toxic relationships, so you should only approach playing this one if you’re comfortable with both of those topics.
As a visual novel, there’s not a lot of input required on behalf of the player but you should expect a strong story to guide you through this pocket-sized experience.
Take a Hint runs for approximately 20 or so minutes. You may finish above or below that figure, but you can certainly see it off in less than half an hour.
The game was originally made for the Women’s Game Jam 2023, so it’s a great opportunity to support an independent female-led title.
At the time of writing, Take a Hint boasts 100% positive reviews from its players on PC storefront Steam which, unfortunately, is the only platform where this title is available.

“It has excellent comic book style artwork. It's short and sweet, you can complete it in less than 10 minutes,” wrote one player. “And most importantly, it's FREE!! There is no reason to skip it. Share it with your friends.”
“The game is a shorter game but I believe that works for its benefit,” added another. “It is a bittersweet talk between friends. As Delfina, you can really tell how much she loves her friend, and by the end Ailén's love for Delfina shines through as well, as sad as seeing her cry is.”
They continued, “I nearly started crying myself, as someone who has been cheated on multiple times and always blamed myself, I yearned for a friend to comfort me the way Delfina comforts Ailén. It's cathartic, in a way, and I'm glad I played through it.”
That’s what I love about modern gaming. Video games aren’t simply entertainment. They can be as cathartic as any other art form.
Consider giving this one a whirl.
