New Hogwarts Legacy game leaks online ahead of official announcement

Our Hogwarts Legacy adventure isn't over yet

Hogwarts Legacy is an interesting case study.

It’s no secret that it was, by far, 2023’s best-selling single-player game, breaking several records.

You’d imagine that Avalanche Software would want to maintain that hype and interest and yet, I’ve never known such a successful game totally fumble its post-launch support.

Yes, developers spent much of last year working on Hogwarts Legacy’s various editions with the Nintendo Switch version launching nine months after its current-gen and PC counterparts - and it would be remiss not to note that there were an array of bug patches.

In terms of new content though? Almost nothing.

This summer, the long-awaited ‘Summer Update’ dropped which was first teased last September.

Considering the build up it had, you can imagine fans’ disappointment when all it really contained was a few new cosmetics, a photo mode, and opened up access to a pre-existing DLC.

There’s got to be more life left in Hogwarts Legacy, surely?

It seems the answer to that question is yes as additional evidence has just dropped supporting the existence of an upcoming Director’s Cut.

It was Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier that first alerted everybody to the possible existence of a Director’s Cut of Hogwarts Legacy.

Following the disastrous launch of Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League, Bloomberg published a deep dive on the game’s troubled launch, interviewing sources at Rocksteady.

In the piece, it was said that due to the game’s reception, some developers were now being asked to help Avalanche to develop a Director’s Cut of Hogwarts Legacy.

At the present time, this version of the game is yet to be officially revealed but a new piece of evidence supporting its existence may have just emerged.

Twitter user PilarczykS spotted, via SteamDB, that several changes were recently made to the game’s files on Steam on 28 August.

Judging by the file names, the changes included the addition of various new logos which certainly does sound a lot like it could be the new Director’s Cut edition of the game.

What this might entail remains a mystery but perhaps we might see the companion system restored.

As for when the Director’s Cut will be revealed, Back To Hogwarts Day is just around the corner on 1 September.

Is it wishful thinking to hope for a reveal then? Let’s sit tight and see what unfolds.
