Hogwarts Legacy disappoints as Harry Potter locks in October gaming return

The latest school year is underway at the fictional Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry with many fans of the Wizarding World franchise having celebrated Back To Hogwarts Day.

Unfortunately, the annual Back To Hogwarts Day showcase didn’t blow us away on this occasion, with the headline announcement being a first look at a new Harry Potter shop on Oxford Street, London, due to open in November.

A fresh trailer for HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter TV adaptation is due to launch today, September 2, although we’re not sure why it didn’t just debut during the showcase.

In terms of the world of gaming, fans didn’t get the Hogwarts Legacy sequel announcement they were hoping for, although such a thing was probably wishful thinking.

Instead, Hogwarts Legacy dropped some limited-time free cosmetic DLC plus an older Harry Potter gaming title was announced to be making a return.

The LEGO Harry Potter Collection returns next month with a Nintendo Switch 2 port having been announced.

Mark your calendar for October 16 as The LEGO Harry Potter Collection returns (again)

The collection of all seven LEGO Harry Potter titles is due to launch on Nintendo’s newest hardware on October 16 - and you can watch the new trailer below.

The LEGO Harry Potter Collection first landed back in 2024 and is essentially a remaster of LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4 and LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5-7 which have been combined into one hefty release.

If you’ve not played through any of these titles before, you should expect a LEGO recreation of the iconic Warner Bros. films with plenty of LEGO humour added in for good measure.

The gameplay is on the simple side but that’s perhaps to be expected considering LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4 first landed in 2010 and has a family appeal.

“This compilation unites the creative prowess of LEGO and the expansive world of Harry Potter, with an exciting journey full of spell-casting, potion-making, puzzle-solving, lessons, duelling and much more for players of all ages to enjoy,” reads the rerelease’s synopsis.

Of course, this latest collection benefits from enhanced graphics.

The LEGO Harry Potter Collection was well received when it landed back in 2024 - and to this day, it holds a ‘Very Positive’ score of 82% on Steam, correct at the time of writing.

“Peak if you don't have the originals in your account as it combines both games, makes you feel like you are Harry Potter, just one that is made of bricks,” read one review, while another added, “Still works and plays great in 2026 and worth playing through it. LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight inspired me to work my way through the other lego games and I'm excited to have so many fun filled adventure puzzle games to explore and experience.”

The LEGO Harry Potter Collection is available to pre-order on Nintendo Switch 2 now, where it’ll set gamers back $49.99 which, admittedly, is pretty pricey for a port of a two-year-old game which is already a rerelease.

What many gamers will be itching to know is what’s next in terms of new releases for the Harry Potter franchise when it comes to gaming.

A Hogwarts Legacy sequel is on the way despite having not been announced yet.

It’s also interesting to consider what TT Games might be working on now that LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight has been released.

The studio is focusing on Warner Bros. franchises, with DC, Game of Thrones, Harry Potter and Mortal Kombat being the IPs that Warner Bros. is keen to push in gaming.

LEGO Game of Thrones and Mortal Kombat don’t feel all that likely.

TT Games could bring another DC world to life next, or perhaps we’ll get a new LEGO take on the Wizarding World. Could it be a LEGO take on Hogwarts Legacy or even the new HBO series?

That’s all speculative but for now, Harry Potter fans will have to settle for this new Nintendo Switch 2 port until something a tad more exciting comes along.
