A major horror game set to release in October has just received a free demo, and it might be the perfect Resident Evil alternative if you’re looking for something to tide you over until Code Veronica releases.
Remothered: Red Nun’s Legacy was announced earlier this year and is set to be the final chapter in the Remothered trilogy.
Despite some doubt being cast over whether a third Remothered game would ever become a reality, the third game is now confirmed to be releasing on October 27, 2026, perfect for Halloween playthroughs.
In case you wanted to check out the game ahead of release though, and for free at that, a new demo is available to check out on Steam.

Remothered: Red Nun's Legacy demo is available until September 14
The demo for Remothered: Red Nun’s Legacy was released due to “overwhelming requests for hands-on at Gamescom”, reads a press release from Stormind Games, revealing that the demo will be available today.
Described as “Neo-Giallo”, Remothered: Red Nun’s Legacy goes for big scares by leaning into Italian cinema vibes with an old-school survival horror angle.
It can be played without having a huge familiarity with the first two games, featuring an “intensely dark narrative reminiscent of the Silent Hill series” and “old-school survival horror mechanics and captivating puzzles familiar to fans of classic Resident Evil”.
If you’d like to play through the demo for Remothered: Red Nun’s Legacy, it’s available now as a playtest on Steam. Simply head to the game’s store page, and find ‘Join Playtest’ to start playing.
For those with only a limited time to play, the demo for Remothered: Red Nun’s Legacy will only be available until September 14, meaning that you only have just under a week to be able to play it.

The blurb on Remothered: Red Nun’s Legacy reads: “Your daughter has been kidnapped. In the trilogy’s final chapter, enter a nightmare to save her, survive what hunts you, and uncover the Red Nun’s truth through retrocognition, mirror abilities and moth manipulation. A modern return to classic survival horror with an Italian neo-giallo twist.”
The series began with Remothered: Tormented Fathers in 2018, which was described at the time as “the pure and realistic survival horror videogame”.
It was followed up in 2020 by Remothered: Broken Porcelain, which was received rather negatively at the time due to a number of bugs and issues which weren’t fixed until a large patch a year later.
Both games were confirmed to be getting remasters earlier this year along with the announcement of Red Nun’s Legacy, but nothing has been confirmed in terms of a release date just yet.
Remothered: Red Nun's Legacy will be released on October 27, 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2.
