Steam users can now pick up a free demo for an upcoming indie horror game that has all the flavours of Resident Evil.
Horror games have always been pretty popular among gamers, and traversing the front page of Steam will give you a bunch of new games to enjoy.
Similarly, the demos section also acts as a great way to get a taster of any upcoming games to put on your radar.
Horror fans can now check out the demo for Complete Horror, an upcoming over-the-shoulder third-person shooter which borrows plenty of DNA from series like Resident Evil or The Evil Within.

You play as a woman who wakes up alone in an abandoned subway station.
It's dark, she doesn't have a phone signal, and there doesn't seem to be a way out.
What's worse, the subway is home to a variety of different twisted creatures that were never human. As you explore, you find more clues that the disaster was no accident, and your presence there is no coincidence.
That's about all we have from developer Stars Pulse in terms of the premise, but it's also broken down a lot of what to expect from the gameplay.
Played from a third-person over-the-shoulder perspective, you can equip several different firearms to defeat the enemies that are inside the subway station.

As you progress, you'll find new weapons to help you survive more difficult enemies, with you being able to perform a mix of ranged and melee combat, complete with execution moves.
Exploration is also a key part of the game, with the subway station consisting of multiple interconnected areas that you need to explore under limited time and resources.
This also applies to the storytelling, where gaining a full understanding of what's going on is pieced together through environmental clues, puzzles, documents and other details in the world.
In case you fancied checking Complete Horror out, you can download the demo now from Steam.
As for when Stars Pulse will reveal the full release date for the game, the only window we've seen so far is "Q3 2026", which encompasses the time between July and September, so we may hear more in the summer.
Complete Horror isn't the only Resident Evil-inspired game coming out this year though.
We've previously covered releases like Industria 2, another spiritual successor to Capcom's flagship horror series, as well as Mawgate, a bite-sized horror which has been hailed as a '10/10' by players.
As for why that style of game might be so popular, I'd liken it to the fact that the "Resident Evil formula" is quite simple in its presentation.
You simply need an intimate setting that can be explored and gradually opened up, with odd puzzles and cleverly designed enemies acting as blockades for your progress. Having a bit of humour about the whole thing doesn't hurt either.
