Resident Evil meets BioShock in this promising new horror that you can check out for free on Steam today.
Despite being two different types of horror offerings, there’s no denying that the Resident Evil and BioShock series have made a big impact in the video game industry.
When Resident Evil first arrived on the original PlayStation in 1996, it had it all: an intriguing story shrouded in conspiracy, terrifying creatures, lovable protagonists, a haunting location, and slow-paced gameplay that was both fun and challenging.
BioShock, released in 2007, is set in the underwater utopia Rapture. While being a terrifying game, its action is fast-paced, unlike Resident Evil. However, its location was also terrifying in its own way, with horrifically mutated residents, and its story featured one of the most shocking twists of all time. I’ll say no more.

So, what is the game that can be considered a cross between Resident Evil and BioShock, I hear you ask? The game in question is called Luna Abyss, developed and published by the indie studio Kwalee Labs.
“Luna Abyss is a single player story driven action-adventure with fluid platforming and bullet hell combat. Follow the journey of Fawkes, a prisoner of Luna caught between a cryptic prophecy and their prison sentence,” reads the synopsis of the game on Steam.

After watching its gameplay trailer, not only does Luna Abyss give Resident Evil and BioShock horror vibes, but its fast-paced bullet hell mechanics remind me of the newly released Saros, coming to PlayStation 5 this week.
However, as good as Luna Abyss looks in the gameplay trailers, we can never know for sure how good this game truly is until we’ve got our hands on it. Thankfully, despite its release being roughly a month away, you can download and play the Luna Abyss demo right now for free, courtesy of Steam.
Taken from over 170 user reviews, Luna Abyss has an impressive “Very Positive” rating, which is roughly a 95% success rate.
“Normally, I only play a couple of minutes of most demos, but I finished this demo and now can't wait for the full game to come out,” revealed Victtor.
“Polished, fluid and engaging gameplay. Beautiful environments, really like the art style,” said STANDARDN3RD.
“The atmosphere is epic, and gameplay is looking very promising... It's like a piece of DOOM got absorbed in the Matrix,” wrote M i L k Y.
While its playable demo has been available for a while, at the time of writing, Luna Abyss has a release date of 21 May 2026. You may also be pleased to know that it’s coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
