BioShock Meets Resident Evil in New Xbox Game, Ode to Rapture

BioShock fans have been starving as of late as the fourth game in the series is still in development.

It’s been years now and BioShock 4 is seemingly no closer to coming out, but 2K has promised it’s still on the way and hasn’t been cancelled.

For those who want a bit more BioShock in their life but don’t want to replay the first three games this latest Xbox release might intrigue, as it combines the eerie, nautical tones of the first two BioShock games with the more puzzle-adjacent gameplay of the Resident Evil series.

Resident Evil is another series due a new entry, with Resident Evil: Requiem launching next year and hopefully bringing Leon Kennedy back into the survival horror.

Back to the Xbox game though, it’s called P1: Anchor Light and it launched today for Xbox Series X/S.

“Step into the lavish lighthouse; an opulent façade hiding a sinister secret” begins the game’s description. “Its beacon, once a trusted guiding light, now threatens to unleash untold horrors upon the world. Your mission is clear: identify the ever-seeping anomalies in a bid to shut it down. But the restless entities within will fight back, their desperate whispers echoing through the halls, yearning for their dark truths to be heard. Can you silence the light before its madness consumes all?"

Sounds interesting, and while it looks like it’ll be lacking combat it clearly won’t be lacking in spooky vibes, something the BioShock games did really well despite being so action-orientated.

I’m particularly fond of the art style on display. Anchor Light seemingly has some excellent lighting and the way shadows linger being the objects you’ll be investigating makes them really unnerving.

I’d love to say Anchor Light is available on Xbox Game Pass but unfortunately it’s not. However despite only just launching on Xbox the game costs a mere £6.99, a small asking price but what looks like a very good game. That said it might find its way onto Xbox Game Pass eventually if you’d rather wait.

BioShock fans will surely get a kick out of it and what else are they going to do while they wait for BioShock 4?

If it’s not your cup of tea though, there are plenty of other horror games that might scratch your BioShock or Resident Evil itch, some of which might still be on sale after Halloween.
