Steam users can now pick up a free horror game, and Resident Evil fans may want to check this out.
If you’re a gamer on a tight budget, the PC market is arguably the best place you can go for cheap or free games.
By simply browsing the home page on Steam, you can find dozens of free games released on the platform each week, ranging from challenging puzzle games to brutal hack-and-slashers.
A new free game that’s just hit the Steam store is Unanswered, an indie horror which looks like a mix of Resident Evil and Outlast.

The game is a psychological horror played from a first-person perspective, where keen observation and resource management are vital to reaching the end.
In Unanswered, you wake up in a strange place, without any knowledge of who you are, where you are, or how you got there. Trapped in this unknowing environment, your only way out is to face the horrors that await you.
While you’re trapped here, you need to explore every corner of the game and search for vital tools in order to progress.
You have access to a flashlight, which has UV functionality to peel back hidden clues, invisible trails and secret clues that you won’t be able to see on your own.

Unanswered’s horror setting isn’t necessarily original, but fans of Resident Evil will find familiarity in its extravagant puzzles and multiple keys you need to find in order to progress.
While manipulating fuse boxes to light up areas is a big part of getting around, there are some areas which you’ll have to force your way through, by tearing off planks or barging past obstacles which block your route.
As developer WhiteRoot Studio clarifies, however, there are “terrifying entities” lurking in the shadows, who will actively hunt you down if you make yourself known to them.
Unanswered is intended to be an episodic experience, with further chapters being released as DLC further down the line. It’s unknown if the DLC will be free or paid, but the first act is completely free for anyone to pick up.
It seems that players are loving the game as well, with a positive review rating of 96% as of writing, indicating “Overwhelmingly Positive” reception.
One review reads: “Recommended if you get trapped in a dark room with nothing but a PC with this installed.”
Another reads: “This was very well made, Voice acting and movements were amazing. was not used to the blinking in a game like this but in all I can not wait for the other acts.”
A third reads: “If you have an hour to kill and want to play a good quality free game, this is the game for you. Good plot and scares. I managed to walk through the wire fence in the boiler room to the left of the padlock which is obviously a glitch but it helped.”
If you’d like to check out Unanswered’s first act now, you can download it for free on Steam.
