P.T. fans will love this new Steam horror game with a free demo available today

If you’re a fan of the cult horror classic, P.T., then you’ll want to check out this new Steam demo that’s available to play right now.

P.T. (Playable Teaser) was never released as a full game because Konami pulled the demo from the PlayStation Store and outright cancelled the horror game it was teasing.

Silent Hills, which would have starred Norman Reedus as its main character, still went on to earn legendary status.

When P.T. launched on the PS Store in August 2014, social media was buzzing with excitement, not only trying to solve its head-scratching puzzles, but also unravelling the haunting story it was subtly telling. On top of that, it’s probably one of the scariest games ever made, which is impressive, considering it was essentially a short demo.

16 years later, the influence of P.T. is still being felt today, especially in the indie horror video game community. One such game that is seemingly inspired by the cult horror (as well as having hints of Five Nights at Freddy’s) is Something Strange Tonight - The Lurker.

Something Strange Tonight - The Lurker is developed and published by Hemoria Studio. Its demo launched on August 7, 2026, and currently, it has a “Positive” rating based on 17 Steam user reviews.

“You came to this house for a one-night babysitting job. As the night goes on, strange events begin to unfold, and nothing is as it seems. Can you protect the little girl and make it through the night alive?” reads the synopsis of the game on Steam.

Something Strange Tonight - The Lurker is played in a first-person perspective, is story-focused, and has “retro/low-poly horror visuals”, which explains the music in its trailer that is reminiscent of the 80s and 90s. Rather than being an action horror, it focuses more on the psychological side, which is very Silent Hill.

What is the Steam community saying about Something Strange Tonight - The Lurker?

“I finished the demo in about 14 minutes, and honestly, I really enjoyed it. The atmosphere does a great job of creating tension, and the game manages to make you feel uneasy without relying too heavily on cheap jump scares,” explained Kharon.

“Very cool demo. Another great night babysitting while having the feeling of being watched! The sound does a great job in creating tension,” wrote AlakiBuffs.

“Very old school and calming, for sure builds up on the creepy atmosphere of being a babysitter. A must-try for other indie game lovers in the spooky area,” said DTJester.

Some of the user reviews did mention bugs, but considering this is an indie game that hasn't been fully released yet, hopefully, those bugs will be fixed at launch.

When is the Something Strange Tonight - The Lurker release date?

At the time of writing, the full game doesn’t have a release date. However, with there already being a demo available, hopefully a release date isn't too far away. In the meantime, it might be worth adding Something Strange Tonight - The Lurker to your Steam wishlist to be notified of its launch.
