Hogwarts Legacy fans heartbroken as Harry Potter game quietly shut down

The story was yet to conclude

Just as life gives, so too does it take away.

Wizarding World fans have certainly had a rollercoaster week.

In case you missed it, not only are we days away from the launch of Harry Potter Quidditch Champions, on 3 September, it’s also been revealed that PlayStation Plus subscribers can grab the game totally for free.

What’s more, Hogwarts Legacy may also be getting a long-awaited new lease of life.

I’ve never witnessed a more successful game have such a dull post-launch period, but that could be about to change.

After rumours of a Director’s Cut emerged earlier this year, additional evidence has now surfaced online.

Updated logos have reportedly been added to the game’s files on Steam.

With Back To Hogwarts Day just a few days away on 1 September, perhaps all will be revealed soon.

Before then though, so too have Wizarding World fans been dealt a blow.

Harry Potter: Magic Awakened is officially being shut down in select territories.

Yearning to return to Hogwarts? Enjoy a house common room tour below.

The game will be shutting down in the Americas, Europe, and Oceania territories on 29 October this year, giving fans just under two months to enjoy the game.

Strangely, it will continue to be available to all “players in Asia, including Chinese Mainland, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, as well as other select Asia and MENA territories”.

For the affected territories though, the app has already been removed from the app store and in-game purchases have been frozen.

“We’d like to thank those in the Americas, Europe and Oceania for playing, and are incredibly proud and honoured that so many fans all around the world have enjoyed Harry Potter: Magic Awakened with such enthusiasm and passion,” a statement added.

Already this is an upsetting move but to make matters worse, it’s been confirmed that players will not be eligible for refunds on any in-game purchases made. All related social media channels will also close.

“I wish they would finish the story at least before closing the servers. It's a shame, this game had a lot of potential,” wrote Reddit user IceGalahad.

“I'm actually really angry, all that time, money, and energy wasted,” added meebee3.

The live service market continues to be volatile, and it’s once again a shame to see so many players affected.
