GTA 6 won't be playable for many of you in 2025, ex Rockstar dev explains why

Not everyone will be able to play GTA 6 in 2025 explains ex-Rockstar Games developer

GTA VI will without question be one of the biggest video game releases of all time, if not the biggest.

Less than a day after the first official GTA VI trailer was revealed on the Rockstar Games YouTube channel, it was quickly smashing records once held by MrBeast. As of right now, a week after its reveal, the Grand Theft Auto VI trailer has over 143 million views.

As is clear, the hype surrounding the upcoming launch of GTA VI is through the roof as PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S gamers potentially await that solid 2025 release date. However, things are even more unclear for PC gamers. As of right now, a GTA VI release window for PC has not been announced by Rockstar Games. That being said, it’s not that much of a concern, because we know that Grand Theft Auto VI will arrive on PC, eventually, but when is the million-pound question.

Only Rockstar Games has an idea as to when details on the expected release date for GTA VI on PC will drop, but a former developer at the studio has shed some light on the situation. Mike York, who was once an animator at Rockstar Games, explained on his YouTube why the developer tends to keep PC gamers waiting, as it had done previously with GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2.

“One of the main reasons why a PC port will take so long to come out after the game launches is because the developers want to make it as best as possible. They have to work out all these little bugs that they haven’t been working on,” explained York.

“A PC port always comes later because they wanna prioritise what sells first. Most of the time, especially in the past, PlayStation was the big seller…so what the developer would do is focus all their energy on making sure the PlayStation port and the PlayStation game works really well,” he continued. “When I was working on GTA V for instance, we would concentrate on the PS3 and the Xbox 360 at the time but we were mainly pushing the PS3 to the limits.”

It makes sense what Mike York says, giving his insight into the logic of Rockstar Games. PC ports can be especially troublesome when converting from console and the studio will do everything to avoid a botched GTA VI launch.

Grand Theft Auto VI will be released in 2025 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
