An Elder Scrolls RPG you can play for free on PC has an unintentional remake not made by Bethesda.
Gamers are still frothing at the mouth over The Elder Scrolls VI and can we really blame them? Bethesda is up there with Rockstar Games as one of the kings of open-world gaming, and many are expecting nothing short of perfection from its next title.
During the long wait, we’ve been playing the latest releases like Crimson Desert but also revisiting some of the classics of the genre.
One of those games is The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall, a game so big that it actually dwarfs Crimson Desert despite being released several years earlier.
For those wanting to play Daggerfall themselves, you can do so for free on Steam, but if gamers are mocking one of 2025’s Game of the Year nominees for looking like an impromptu remake of Bethesda’s classic.

While unfortunately coming away from the award ceremony empty-handed, Kingdom Come Deliverance II is still a monumental achievement by Warhorse Studios.
Building off the best parts of the original game, the sequel expanded the story, combat and open-world for a true medieval experience. If only horse riding didn’t look so outdated…
“Kingdom Come: Deliverance II horseback riding looks like The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall in 4K HD”, pointed out Wesleytypes on X, and unfortunately, we see the vision.
Daggerfall’s dated visuals are still charming in 2026, but not very good if your goal is to truly take in the wonders of the world around you.
The image Wesleytypes shared was the player in an open field riding a horse, and due to the point-of-view, only a small part of the horse’s head is visible. The rest of the screen is just a green field.
They compared it to a similar shot taken from Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, which doesn’t make any changes to the camera when riding a horse.
Because of this, you also get a semi-distant shot of the back of a horse’s head, making for a hilarious comparison between games that are decades apart.

Fans in the comments began to joke about how Kingdom Come Deliverance II almost resembles a remake of Daggerfall, as well as other Elder Scrolls games.
“KCD2 was a better Oblivion remake than the Oblivion remake”, said Ryan Emma, to which Wesleytypes replied: “Funny thing to say considering KCD2 cut all fantasy elements.”
While Warhorse Studios isn’t going to be collaborating with Bethesda anytime soon, it is widely believed that a Lord of the Rings game is actively in development as the team’s next title.
GAMINGbible caught up with some of the Warhorse devs last Friday when Kingdom Come Deliverance II walked away with a BAFTA Game Award.
While they refused to reveal what they’re working on next, it sounded like they’d heard the rumours themselves and wanted fans to be just as excited as they are…
