We could be getting a brand-new Elder Scrolls drop before the sixth game comes out as Xbox has reportedly offered a new team the chance to explore an adaptation of the famed series.
While we're getting Grand Theft Auto content after over a decade of waiting, the Elder Scrolls is still a few years from giving us a Skyrim successor.
Xbox has recently ramped up its support of the next Elder Scrolls game, with CEO Asha Sharma partially revealing its title by dropping a new gameplay update.
Yet while Bethesda has been doubling down on getting the game over the line, there's no guarantee that we will get the sixth mainline game in this decade.

There is a chance of a film though. According to new reports, Xbox has opened up its IPs to streaming platforms and offered them the chance to pitch movie ideas set inside universes like Tamriel.
Xbox 'pitches Elder Scrolls and more to Hollywood'
Xbox has reportedly began pitching adaptations of their IPs to Hollywood studios such as Universal, Netflix and Paramount.
Game franchises like Halo, World of Warcraft, Diablo, and Elder Scrolls are all included in those pitches (Fallout is exempt, following the series adaptation on Prime Video starring Ella Purnell and Walton Goggins).
This follows clear indications from Microsoft that they want similar success stories to Minecraft, whose adaptation with Jack Black and Jason Momoa was one of the most popular movies of 2025.
Call of Duty is also getting an adaptation on Paramount, penned in for a 2028 box office release.

Its not yet sure what type of pitches these included for Elder Scrolls. But if we look at the pattern left by Fallout, Call of Duty, and Minecraft, its likely that any adaptations will be new works inside the series lore, rather than straight remasters of the scripts.
Although, if a direct adaptation was to occur, starting at the beginning of the franchise with an Arena (1994) film could be a great way to tell stories that many Elder Scrolls fans have missed.
Asha Sharma dodges PlayStation questions on Elder Scrolls 6's exclusivity
While Elder Scrolls and the other Xbox-owned IPs could be getting adaptations on the cinema screen, there's still no news as to what Microsoft plans to do with PlayStation.
Platform exclusivity seems to be high up on Sharma's priority list as the new CEO has used Forza Horizon 6 and Gears of War: E-Day as her first trials at managing in-house developed games. None of them landed on PlayStation, and a possible PS5 prot for Forza continues to be delayed.
Speaking at Gamescom, the Head of Xbox brushed off questions from the BBC around Elder Scroll's plans for a multi-platform release.
"We are increasingly going to be one of the largest platforms in the world. Every platform needs some form of exclusive experiences and content," she said.
“And so, what we’ve shared is Gears of War: E-Day and Clockwork [Revolution]. We’re going to do the best we can to continue to do that, all in context of the business being healthy, and so we have to balance that.”
When pressed on Elder Scrolls 6 again, she simply said "it's a beautiful game".
The interview with Sharma also touched on Project Helix, although her response to physical media and disc trays was equally as ambigious.
Xbox certainly has a lot of ingredients to cook with, and it could be a tasty course of dishes served over the next few years, on multiple screens.
