The Elder Scrolls 6 gameplay teased as title partially revealed

The Elder Scrolls VI just received its biggest update in years, and that’s all thanks to Xbox’s latest CEO Asha Sharma.

It’s been a rough couple of months for Xbox.

The early days of Sharma’s tenure were celebrated, as she instantly came in and reversed Game Pass price hikes, brought back console exclusive games, and reaffirmed the brand’s commitment to hardware.

But then, in July, came news of mass layoffs with 3,200 Xbox employees set to lose their jobs with Xbox totally parting ways with Double Fine, Ninja Theory, Compulsion Games, and Undead Labs.

Clearly, Sharma thinks that dust has settled, because she’s trying to get back on track by teasing The Elder Scrolls VI - and it’s worked because the internet is hyped.

Sharma took to Twitter/X to reveal that she’s played (or at least watched a playthrough) of a segment of the game.

Of the gameplay, she teased, “The scale and grandeur are incredible. The story is even greater,” hyping up what is one of the most anticipated titles in gaming beyond Grand Theft Auto VI.

Perhaps more excitingly though, Sharma teased The Elder Scrolls VI’s title.

Get your fan theories in; we have an eight letter title

Sharma began the tweet by saying, “Live playthrough of The Elder Scrolls VI: ******** this morning.” Curious.

Bethesda Game Studios then replied, doubling down on the tease with, “It was great being able to show you ********. Thank you for the kind words and a wonderful visit.”

So, we now know that The Elder Scrolls VI has an eight letter title which throws the current predominant fan theory out of the window.

Fans suspected that it might be called ‘The Elder Scrolls VI: Hammerfell’ but that’s 10 letters; that doesn’t rule Hammerfell out as a setting though.

Yes, Skyrim is called Skyrim and is set in Skyrim. Oblivion, however, is set in Cyrodiil.

With Hammerfell ruled out, Reddit is full of new theories.

“Dominion,” suggested user Former-Palpatation86.

“Sentinel,” added Sgtpepperhead67, earning responses of, “Yep.”

“Sentinel or Satakaal, calling it now,” agreed Zestyclose-Crow-4463, while XRedactedSlayerX wrote, “What if I raise you The Elder Scrolls: Covenant.”

What this does once again reaffirm to us is that The Elder Scrolls VI is progressing nicely as it was several years ago that we first heard of it being internally playable.

That’s not to say that the game is almost finished but if it’s been played in some capacity for over two years, we’re definitely on the home stretch.

And with that in mind, a 2027 release date isn’t out of the question, although 2028 perhaps feels more likely to give Fable room to breathe next year.

In fact, it’s not a stretch to imagine The Elder Scrolls VI being the headline announcement of 2027’s Xbox Showcase ahead of a 2028 launch.

We’re getting ahead of ourselves though. For now, it’s nice to know that the game is as ambitious as we’d hoped - plus we’re going to keep obsessing over name theories.
