Bethesda has confirmed that Fallout 4 is getting a hefty and much-needed expansion next week that’s long overdue.
Originally released in 2015, Fallout 4 is one of the most beloved entries in Bethesda’s post-apocalyptic RPG series, and that’s saying something, considering the rich history of this franchise.
Fans could debate all day as to which is the best in the series from Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas, Fallout 4, and not forgetting the skewed trimetric perspective entries of the 1990s. Heck, following all of its post-launch updates, perhaps the once doomed Fallout 76 might be in with a good shout, too.
In April 2024, following a significant delay and radio silence from Bethesda, Fallout 4 finally received its free new-gen update, enhancing the game's visuals and performance for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Earlier this year, the popular RPG was also ported to the Nintendo Switch 2, so to say that it’s a good time to be a Fallout fan would be an understatement.
However, Bethesda is not done with improving Fallout 4 just yet, especially when it comes to helping the modding community with its creativity and to ensure that even more players can enjoy the content they create.

As announced on the Bethesda social media channels, the community creations of Fallout 4 will be getting a hefty expansion, which will allow gamers to download and store more content on consoles than ever before.
From Wednesday 27 May 2026, the storage capacity for Fallout 4 Creations will be expanded from 1GB to 2GB, respectively on Xbox One, PS5 and PS5, bringing it up to around 15GB. At the same time, the Xbox Series X/S will be bumped up to 100GB.
While Bethesda hasn't confirmed why this is the case, I would assume that it has a lot to do with the mods on Xbox Series X/S being of a larger quantity than on PlayStation. While mods do exist on PlayStation, it seems that Sony isn't all that keen to blow the doors wide open in that respect - unlike the much larger number of mods available for the likes of Fallout 4 and Skyrim on the Microsoft consoles.
Before the update arrives on 27 May, Bethesda has warned PlayStation and Xbox gamers to make sure they log into Fallout 4 and save the latest file. This is to ensure that no data is lost, and following the update, players will be able to re-download their entire Creations list.
Fallout 4 is out now. It’s also currently available in Xbox Game Pass and select PlayStation Plus tiers.
