Fallout: New Vegas players can now pick up a challenging new free download for the game to make the playthrough much harder.
One of the most interesting things about difficulty in the Fallout games is that you can tweak them to your liking.
Difficulties across all the games range from Very Easy, to Normal, to Very Hard, and with a few more in-between.
But the series has faced criticism for this, with many pointing out how all it really does is increase or decrease the health and damage outputs of enemies.

In essence, it's not actually doing anything too interesting besides changing how quickly you die.
Players who want a more challenging experience have had to consult with PC mods over the years, searching for mods which make the game tougher without it necessarily meaning enemies get more hit-points.
Dynamic Encounters is one such mod for Fallout: New Vegas which you could say does this.
Instead of making the game tougher by adding stronger enemies, it instead populates the Mojave Wasteland with more enemy encounters, including groups that have more dynamic responses to your character's actions.
"Long gone are the days of sprinting across the wasteland without a care in the world," reads the mod description for Dynamic Encounters, created by a modder called StealthDick. "Dynamic Encounters populates the Mojave with thoughtful, location-aware combat encounters that respect where you are, who you’ve pissed off, and how far into the story you’ve gotten - all without touching your load order. ESP-less. No plugin slot used."

As the mod states, every time you step into a new area you may encounter a new group of enemies. These could be raiders, NCR, Legion, or some other entirely different faction altogether.
The difference here is that this group is searching for you. They won't beeline straight to your face, but they will be scanning the area for you.
The idea is, I guess, that these factions have heard of your reputation and have been tasked with hunting you down.
That's why they may not know where you are, and are actively looking for you in the vicinity.
Each zone on the map has a certain chance to spawn a new group, with areas like open highway stretches and warzones running at a 40-65% chance to spawn, while towns and named locations have a rarer chance at 30%.
There are also some encounters which factor in your story progression at the time as well.
For example, Goodsprings spawns mercenaries if the player is hostile to the town, or Powder Gangers if they sided with Joe Cobb. Meanwhile, Jacobstown super mutants will come for you in the region if you were recently hostile.
In essence, it should add a fairly unique gameplay change if you're a character that likes to play aggressively and wants to add an additional challenge to your next New Vegas playthrough.
You can download Dynamic Encounters now from the Fallout: New Vegas portal on Nexus Mods.
