The Fallout video game series got a new rival in 2025. In 2026 that rival returns but this time it’s looking to compete with the Amazon Prime series.
Bethesda’s Fallout series stands firm as the King of post-apocalyptic games but there’s always been a bit of friendly competition with other IPs.
Stalker and Metro are good examples but last year paved the way for a new rival, my 2025 Game of the Year to be exact.
While Atomfall didn’t intentionally try to usurp Fallout, it was endlessly compared to Bethesda’s franchise upon its initial reveal.
The game’s release shook off quite a few of those comparisons but the similarities still stand, even more so now that a TV show is in the works.
Advert
Atomfall’s TV adaptation will be produced by Two Brothers Pictures, and led by Harry Williams and Jack Williams.
The creators will work in close collaboration with the game’s developer, Rebellion Developments, namely Rebellion's founders Jason Kingsley and Chris Kingsley.
It aims to faithfully adapt the British sci-fi, folk-lore and mythology that made up Atomfall’s world, and by extension made it so compelling for players like myself.
What’s more exciting though is the plan to expand the game’s story whilst also keeping some of the mystery intact.
Atomfall has many endings and each one brings more questions than it does answers so what better way to deliver some than through a TV show?
Speaking about the new series Harry and Jack Williams said: “Atomfall has such a distinctive British tone and setting, and it’s been a real joy developing it alongside the Rebellion team … There’s something very exciting about expanding this strange, unsettling story for television.”
At the time of writing no release date has been named, nor what streaming service the show will debut on if any.

Set in a quarantined section of Cumbria, Atomfall was an extraordinary open-zone survival game that challenged players to unearth the mystery of the Windscale Power Plant.
When the complex suddenly suffers a catastrophic meltdown the land surrounding it becomes warped with a mysterious energy.
Nearby residents find themselves imprisoned in their quaint little village of Wyndham and some even go mad, splintering off into a cult-like group hellbent on spreading Windscale’s poison to the rest of the world.
The player’s character is an unknown entity in this world with no memory of how they got there or what involvement they had with recent events. They’re a blank, silent vessel for the player to immerse themselves.
Gameplay takes the form of investigations with some combat mixed in, as you speak with the townsfolk and try to figure out what Windscale actually is and what could be the source of its meltdown.
Reviews of the game were favourable and it went on to win Best British Game at the BAFTA Games Awards earlier this year.
