Fallout 4 has about the same amount of cut content as it does content that Bethesda decided to keep in, and it ranges from full blown, story-altering questlines to individual enemy types and strange locations.

The reason we know about a lot of it is because many of the assets involved remain in the game's files, despite not being accessible within the game itself (without some technical wizardry on the part of modders).

One of the most interesting elements that didn't make it in is an absolutely horrifying creature that has the potential to destroy the entirety of the Commonwealth on its own, and we're quite glad we didn't have to face it head on.

The May-Pole is a Terrifying 300ft Tall Ghoul

Over on Reddit, a user shared a terrifying screenshot of an Edvard Munch-esque Scream creature in Fallout 4, which is actually a 300ft tall Ghoul known in the game files as the May-Pole.

This creature is surrounded by a pack of constantly spawning and regenerating feral ghouls and it's even supposed to throw them at the player like big gross cricket balls.

The comments underneath the post are mostly lamenting the lack of enormous ghouls in the game, as well as the weird and cosmic horror that earlier games have more readily available.

"In reflection, Fallout 4 really feels like its missing so much of the weird and washy sci-fi concepts that the previous games had. I mean, even the Vaults I felt were rather generic and not fitting into the theming, if you will, of the previous vaults," one comment read.

"The face is so spooky, Subnautica is horrifying to me but this face and its stature... just brings something out of me. Major chills," another added.

As one user pointed out, it is actually possible to get the May-Pole into the game via the wonder of modding, saying, "The maypole was brought to life in mod form on Nexus.

"Its pretty awesome. Major boss battle and nets you a pretty awesome 'Glowing One' inspired power armour."

The mod in question is MAYPOLE - Raid Boss And Ghoul Power Armor, which is currently available to download on NexusMods and other Fallout 4 modding sites.

If you're on your 1000th playthrough and looking for a real challenge, it's a very fun thing to try and go for.

It's just a really cool way to add some epic monsters to the game, beyond the usual Deathclaws.
