Fallout 5 is yet to be officially announced, although it does feel like something that’ll eventually happen.
Even still, it’s a sign that the game is many, many years away from ever being tangible.
It’s not all doom and gloom for Fallout fans though.
The fantastic Prime Video TV adaptation returns for its second season this December, and the multiplayer title Fallout 76 will soon welcome a major expansion inspired by it that brings Walton Goggins’ Ghoul into the fold.

As for Fallout 4, well, there’s nothing hugely new here, but one fan has pointed out a simple way that you can overhaul the experience regardless of what platform you play it on.
“Playing Survival in Fallout 4 is like a whole different game,” began Reddit user kingwafflez.
“I played Fallout 2, New Vegas, & Fallout 4 this year but I felt like starting another playthrough. I never played survival mode but decided to try it. THIS IS THE WAY FALLOUT WAS MEANT TO BE PLAYED,” they continued.
“On regular mode, you're always like, ‘Durr, I have all these stimpacks durrr what's the point of beds cooking food durrr’? Im constantly begging the Fallout gods for a f**king bed or just a sleeping bag please???”

If you’re not already familiar, ‘survival mode’ is Fallout 4’s most challenging difficulty but it doesn’t purely up the ante in the usual sense.
Certainly, you should expect tougher combat encounters with enemies being far more difficult to take down.
Alongside that though, survival mode tasks you with managing hunger, thirst, and exhaustion.
One of its quirks is that you can only save the game from a bed, mattress, or sleeping bag with the game disabling autosave features.

It also disables fast travel with enemies repopulating far quicker than they do in normal modes too.
It’s very much an immersive way to play the game; it’s not for everyone, but if you want the true wasteland experience, I’d say this is it.
“I agree that survival is definitely the way to go. You find so much random food and things like that that have absolutely no use in a normal playthrough, survival really forces you to scrounge around and look through everything,” replied Reddit user Sheperdsfavestore.
“I think survival starts out as overwhelming to a newcomer, but once you know what you're doing, it's SOOO much more fun. I've been in FO4 for about 3,400 hours now, most of it survival. I would never play another difficulty at this point,” declared Revenant62.

Overwhelming is a good descriptor.
Playing in survival mode slows down progress but then again, as I said, Fallout 5 isn’t coming any time soon so maybe that’s not a bad thing.
