The alleged Fallout 3 remaster has been a part of whispers and rumours for many years now, but a new report suggests it could be coming sooner than we think.
First spotted during the 2023 FTC v. Microsoft lawsuit, the Fallout 3 remaster was leaked with a potential release year of 2024.
Obviously, this did not come to pass, but fans have a good reason to believe it’s still coming following the release of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered last year.
In recent months, more rumours and leaks have cropped up pointing to a near-future release for the remaster, with some dates pointing to as soon as later in the year.

A new comment by WindowsCentral's Jez Corden on the Xbox Two podcast (via GamingBolt) may have given us our most up-to-date report regarding the release window for the Fallout 3 remaster.
Following a discussion with co-host Rand al Thor about Xbox potentially reviving "storied" franchises, the topic turned to the possibility of Fallout being included here.
"I’ve heard that like, I don’t know how true this is, but one thing I heard is Fallout remasters are probably a little bit further off than people think, and The Elder Scrolls 6 is still quite far away," Corden responded. "I suppose that getting some of those games out more quickly is probably something they’re probably very thinking is top of mind for them."
In this case, the remasters refer to both Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas, with Fallout 3 rumoured to come first.
Both hosts then agree that "at least one of" the remasters could come as soon as "next year".
While Corden is usually an insider with reliable information on Microsoft and Xbox's strategy, it sounds like this might be more wishful thinking and intuition rather than him having actual information.
So for now, be sure to take this with a pinch of salt and wait for official confirmation from Microsoft.
The earliest we could hear about this is at the upcoming Xbox Games Showcase as part of Summer Game Fest, due to air on Sunday, 7 June at 6PM BST.
As of right now, the only game confirmed to be shown during this showcase is Gears of War: E-Day, but we may also hear more about Fable and Halo: Campaign Evolved, both of which are set to release in 2026 but don't have release dates yet.
Some MIA Xbox Game Studios games like OD, Clockwork Revolution, and State of Decay 3 may also make an appearance, but nothing has been confirmed yet.
Whether or not we hear about the Fallout 3 remaster though, remains to be seen. Considering Bethesda brought out the Oblivion Remaster as a shadow drop, it may adopt the same strategy here.
