A monster-taming RPG inspired by classic Pokémon entries has been made free to claim on the PC storefront Steam, but you don’t have long to act.
Developed by Yanako RPGs, Dokimon Quest is the game in question, with this charming Game Boy Colour-inspired title having first landed in 2024.
It’s very much your classic Pokémon experience; you’ll travel across the Xelos region in search of your missing childhood friend, battling Dokimon as you make your way through over 15 towns.
As Dokimon Quest is inspired by classic Pokémon entries, it goes without saying that it features pixel-art retro visuals - and gorgeous ones at that.

There are over 140 Dokimon for you to train, capture, and battle. Those who train and battle Dokimon are known as rangers, and plenty of rival rangers will want to test your skills.
Battles are turn-based, but you also enable an option that allows “world battles”, which essentially means the battle takes place immediately in your surroundings.
There are nine playable characters to choose from, plus players can select from either a retro-inspired 8-bit soundtrack or a piano option, which is perhaps a tad more relaxing.
Dokimon Quest boasts four save files if you want to share the title with a friend or embark on multiple playthroughs with different approaches.
Dokimon Quest’s post-game content is “endless”, so you’ll never run out of things to do
You might want to eventually embark on a second playthrough, as Dokimon Quest features several routes across its map.
You may travel through caves and shrines one time, before venturing across the sea and mountains the next.

All in all, it should take you anywhere between 15 and 20 hours to complete the story mode of Dokimon Quest, but there’s also post-game content.
In fact, the post-game is described as “endless”, with players having to track down new rare variants of some of the game’s creatures.
You can also engage in side activities throughout the base game, like fishing, to relax and unwind away from the narrative.
The game will normally set you back £12.79, but it’s been made free for a very short time.
If you want to nab Dokimon Quest for no cost whatsoever, you’ll need to head to its Steam listing and hit ‘add to account’ before tomorrow, August 26, at 6pm BST / 10am PT / 1pm ET.
Don’t miss out on some other free Steam treats:

- Steam 10/10 cozy free taster is a must-play amid wait for a new Animal Crossing entry
The game holds a respectable score of 74% from Steam users, garnering it the ‘Mostly Positive’ accolade.
“This is a very fun and cheeky retro creature cap RPG. Very standard and entertaining, of course everyone has their own cup of tea but after beating the game for what it is, it's a pretty solid game. 8/10,” wrote one happy player.
“Saw that the game was free on Instagram so I had to pick it up, games pretty good so far, controls take a minute to get used to but other than that great game,” added another.
Someone wrote, “Reminds me of Pokémon, literally almost the exact game with some minor changes as to not fully copy it. It's a burst of nostalgia, it's fun, reminds me of when I was a kid playing on the GBC.”
If it’s not drilled into your brain already, grab this one quickly before it’s too late and the price shoots back up.
