The Last of Us leak confirms we're finally going to experience Seattle from Tommy's POV

The Last of Us Part II remains a divisive game. You tend to either fall into the camp of thinking it’s the greatest game of all-time or that it’s unplayable.

Thankfully, the former camp is the bigger of the two, and it’s certainly the one that I, like many, fall into.

The narrative that The Last of Us Part II offers is incredibly comprehensive, but a few gaps remain to this day.

The most notable of those easily concerns what happened to Tommy during his time in Seattle, prior to reuniting with Ellie at the aquarium.

For years, The Last of Us fans hoped that this unexplored sequence of events might be addressed in a DLC.

Unfortunately, while The Last of Us Part I received Left Behind, Part II has received no such DLC, the roguelike No Return mode aside.

However, Tommy’s side of events is finally set to be explored in HBO’s The Last of Us TV show, as proven by a new video leaked from the set.

An on-set video offers a hint at to what Tommy and Jesse get up to in Seattle

The video was shared by Twitter/X user svtjems and shows Gabriel Luna’s Tommy and Young Mazino’s Jesse leaving a store, rifles at the ready.

The clip itself doesn’t evidence much beyond this, but it does signal what’s to come - and it’s something that, clearly, us The Last of Us fans have been clamouring for for years.

In The Last of Us Part II, all we know of Tommy’s three days in Seattle is that on day three, he splits up from Jesse.

Based on Abby’s half of the story, Tommy has a run-in with Abby and Manny at the docks, where he shoots at the duo with his sniper before killing Manny.

Tommy then gets into a brief fist fight with Abby before Yara intervenes, Tommy is overpowered, and thrown into the sea.

There’s a lot leading up to this, however, that we don’t know - and given how volatile a place Seattle is, we can’t imagine that Tommy and Jesse had a smooth ol’ time.

While The Last of Us’ upcoming third season is set to focus on Abby’s part of the story, it’ll be nice to reunite with familiar characters like Tommy and Jesse - and get some answers.

Of course, there is one thing to consider. The events of The Last of Us Part II and HBO’s TV adaptation are slightly different - and I’m going to overlook HBO turning Ellie into a moron despite Bella Ramsey’s best efforts to work with the questionable Season 2 scripts.

In the game, Tommy is the first to depart for Seattle, with Ellie and Dina trailing behind. They find evidence at the Hotel Serevena of his presence, with Tommy having made use of Joel’s interrogation methods.

In the TV show, Tommy actually follows Ellie and Dina, so the gaps that HBO does finally fill in won’t precisely match up with those questions we still have left unanswered from the game.

While Season 2 of The Last of Us left a sour taste in the mouths of many, it’s very likely that season 3 could be a return to form.

Abby’s side of the story is arguably the best, with some really incredible set pieces, like the run-in with the Rat King and the Seraphite island attack.

Again, Season 2 was sadly dragged down by poor judgement in pacing and a complete misuse of Ellie, so hopefully those kinks will be ironed out.

The Last of Us season 3 has yet to confirm a release date, but it’s possible that we could get a first trailer on The Last of Us Day next month.
