HBO’s The Last of Us is reportedly set to start filming its third season very soon with both Bella Ramsey (Ellie) and Kaitlyn Dever (Abby) having confirmed they’ve seen the scripts.
In line with The Last of Us Part II, season three is due to tell Abby’s side of the events in Seattle, although that doesn’t mean that Ellie, Dina, and company won’t feature.
Fair to say, The Last of Us needs to get back on track this season, even if it may be the show’s final outing.
The series’ second season was by no means a colossal failure but the dumbing down of Ellie in later episodes somewhat killed the vibe in Seattle.

I do, however, think Bella Ramsey did a phenomenal job with the material she was given.
Dever will lead things this time around, with Owen, Mel, Manny, and Nora all getting more time in the spotlight.

Unfortunately, Danny Ramirez never quite got the chance to show us what he was capable of as Manny.

Several months ago, it was confirmed that Ramirez wouldn’t be appearing in the third season due to scheduling conflicts; it’s assumed that’s tied to his role in the MCU.
It’s a shame because this part of the story is, as I said, where Manny has the time to shine. I’ll be sad to not see Ramirez given that opportunity.
Danny Ramirez’s Replacement Is Revealed, Manny Recast Ahead of Season 3
The role is in safe hands though as Deadline has confirmed that Jorge Lendeborg Jr. will be stepping in as Manny in his absence.
His might not be a name you instantly recognise, but Lendeborg Jr. has starred in some great projects.
He played Jason Ionello in Spider-Man: Homecoming and Memo in Bumblebee, as well as Tanji in Alita: Battle Angel and Jah Son in Wu-Tang: An American Saga.
I’m excited to see what he brings to the role.
Alongside Lendeborg Jr.’s appointment, Deadline also revealed that Clea DuVall has been cast as an unnamed seraphite.
My guess is it could be the character known as The Prophet whom the seraphites base their beliefs on.
DuVall shares a likeness with the in-game paintings and drawings of the character, and it was teased that we’d get a backstory for the figure.
If this is the case, we could be in for a treat. DuVall is a great actor, having starred in The Handmaid’s Tale, Veep, Better Call Saul, Zodiac, and Argo amongst others.
The Last of Us creator Neil Druckmann stepped away from his role as executive producer on the HBO show following the conclusion of its second season.
He said he wanted to dedicate more time to Naughty Dog and the studio’s video game output again, but many wondered if a rift had developed between himself and co-showrunner Craig Mazin.
Mazin did such a wonderful job adapting season one. I just hope we can get back to this in season three.
Abby’s story is the strongest element of The Last of Us, in my opinion. Please do it justice.
