FromSoftware games are very well known for their difficulty, so much so that their original Dark Souls ever spawned a genre that is defined by it's difficulty for players, and that persists to this day.
As such, the developer has never really felt the need to stray away from that formula, and why should they when it has continuously proved popular with their considerable fan base?
That impressive challenge absolutely applies to Elden Ring Nightreign, the co-operative focused spin-off to the lauded original RPG that takes place in a procedurally generated version of Limgrave, known as Limveld here.
The next phase for the game is the Forsaken Hollows DLC, which is set to add plenty of features that should make it well worth jumping back in, if you have lapsed. Equally, it's also set to be really tough, if recent comments from the game's director are to be believed.

Forsaken Hollows is Set to Be A Difficult Proposition
In an interview with Gamespot, Elden Ring Nightreign director Junya Ishizaki shared his thoughts on the upcoming DLC, including confirming exactly how difficult it will be compared to the vanilla experience.
"[It is] definitely a little bit harder," he confirmed, "but it's not ridiculous or anything like that, but that's still within what we would consider to be a fair challenge."

Ishizaki also discussed the team's approach to developing the game more generally, and balancing the game for the vast array of player abilities that login each day.
"The main takeaway we had post-release was just there was a lot of trouble trying to get the balancing right. I think balancing is just so subjective, so a lot of our thoughts post-release working up to the DLC were how can we get the balancing in mind with what we were initially envisioning, and also with that balancing set, how can we take a different approach and devise new enemies, new characters, and stuff like that to play into that and utilise the new balancing that we are working with," he said.
The DLC itself is set to introduce two new Nightfarers (the game's playable characters) in the Scholar and the Undertaker. It also adds formidable new enemies in Abominations, as well as others that we don't have the names for just yet.
You don't have long to wait to get your hands on it either, with the DLC set to release on 4 December for all platforms.
